DARWIN, Australia - An Australian man has been fined after buckling in a case of beer with a seat belt but leaving a 5-year-old child to sit on the car's floor, police said Tuesday.

I remember when we didn't wear seatbelts in a car.  My dad drove us from West Virgina to California once when I was about 8 with my cousins and grandparents.  The kids all sat in the cargo area of the station wagon, with the back window completely rolled down.

But fuck, buckling your beer in but not your kid.  LOL.  Too funny.

Now that's hardcore for ya. I mean, while you don't want the beer to fall, you especially don't want it to fall on the kid. I'm sure it would be easy to explain to the officer.

It is no surprise for anyone who's ever been to Darwin.

Hey in Oz they feed crocodliles with a baby tucked under their arm so why is this an issue? LOL On a serious note - I think we found a new Hubby for Britney Spears... [:D]

What Australia like?   tell us please.

I knew a guy in a blazer truck how rigged a tube to drain thru the floorboard,  this way he could pee while in traffic.   lol

It isn't like the movies where you see kangaroos hopping down the main street of the cities....however today I had to stop my car on a busy 4 lane road just outside the CBD to let a black swan casually cross the road!!!!  If I head a little out of the city during dusk you will see the kangaroos come out ....they are considered a pest as they eat all of the grass.

My guess is, as always with the press...there was a lot more to the story.

The truth probably was more along the lines of, he hadn't snugged in the kid in front of the beer to protect the beer from a full frontal impact.  Clearly the cop took offense that the beer wasn't fully shielded from potential harm.

I wonder if the same goes for an unsecured box of doughnuts in America [:D] .

sorry off topic.... I was amazed in the US to see that people actually DO seem to have sweet doughnuts for breakfast!  and they were huge!!!! (the doughnuts)

kittinSol -> RE: Australian fined for buckling in beer, not child (5/15/2008 7:18:39 AM)

They do - very odd. I suppose people will eat anything, and since every other shop here is a 'Funkin' Fonuts', hardly surprising.

I've had to do some serious curtailing with my son who, upon arrival in this country, quickly developed a doughnut obsession that went beyond the sugar pale.

I think they must put something in the flour. When you think about it, it's pretty toxic stuff [8D] .
