The cat on your car is pretty much what could be called an afterburner. Mainly what it does is get hot.

There is platinum in them and they have a very high scrap value. Scrapyards nowhave very enhanced security and my buddy works at one, handling security. As such he interacts with others, law enforcement included. But what he told netheother day almost seemed out of sorts, but I think I believe it.

They are going to start putting silver in the cat on your tailpipe.

Reason ? 1. They can, it will work and 2. Platinum is two thousand dollars an ounce and silver is about sixteen dollars an ounce.

Remember what I said about silver a while back ? Well up just came another industrial use for silver. If you got any now, hang on to it if you can afford to.

TWO cats have been stolen off my truck. They are paying enough that it makes it worth it. A battery operated die grinder is a great tool for theives. It makes noise yes, but they are done fast enough that you are not likely to catch them.

You just wake up in the morning, start your car and it sounds like the whole exhaust system fell off. My buddy tells me they are getting really strict, and now you can't scrap anything without a picture ID. But that is not going to work. Them having a license does not tell you where they were at four in the morning last night.

this has been a problem for a while now. more ppl are finally noticing it. cats have been disappearing off cars in the inner city for years, my dad used to talk about it alot when he was a cop working in the 4th district, every once in awhile there would be another string of thefts. they're easy money for the crackheads.

Actually a recriprocating saw works wonders if you use the right saw or bit or whatever on it. It is how my father used to take them off cars he junked. He has been gone now two year's. He was selling catalytic converters for 160 a pop then...I imagine the price has only went up.

The interesting fact on platinum is that it is more prevalent than gold or silver.
"Huh" you say? DeBeers has a monopoly on platinum as well as diamonds.

You can actually get a lot of platinum out of the mine tailings from old abandoned gold mines. But, I'm told that men in black suits come pay a visit if you start selling it in commercial quantities.

Not sure if this conspiracy theory is right, but the bit about platinum being more common than gold is true.

When I saw the news article about cat converter thefts, I was glad (once again) not to have a jacked up SUV instead of my little car that's only 5 to 6 inches off the ground.

DON'T WORRY YOUR CAR WILL STILL WORK WITHOUT ONE and no one here seems to care about pollution it seems as they all go shopping in 4x4s.

I don't know if I ever mentioned this.

My mechanic, well he did about two grand worth of work on my car for like 150. Then when his car didn't pass I bought him a catalytic for it.

This is the part I find hard to understand - it was 46 bucks, brand new.
