I refer to going into a hardware shop, seeing bolts and chains(but not for your garden gate),going into a clothes shop and looking at leather belts (but not to hold your trousers up),ties (but not to wear around your neck, men in womens clothes shops(but not buying clothes for a woman).Do you feel self conscious when buying this stuff, bearing in mind it could be completely for vanilla stuff, but inwardly,YOU know different?!!

Sometimes I feel a little self-conscious when making especially odd purchases at a "vanilla" store.  Usually, though, I'm just smirking a bit at the look on the cashier's face as they scan body oil, clothespins, condoms, wooden spoons, sexy underwear, unscented white candles and uh... baby wipes.  Because it's inevitable that, when buying pervertables, I always need to pick up something mundane for the UM, like diapers or milk.  It makes a very strange end to a very strange transaction.

No, except when Bita and I went to OSH and she had trouble explaining to the helpful plumbing guy exactly what size piping she needed for...um...under her sink, yeah, that was it!

No, I don't. I find that, usually, when peope feel this, it's because they have some guilt about who and/or what they are. I don't feel any guilt about who and what I am. I am me.

OMG! That was sooo much fun! I thought I was going to pee my pants from holding back the laughter. I have no idea what on Earth I'm going to do if I ever have to go buy pipe because I really need to fix a sink rather than just pervert the pipe!

Well that was the funny thing, ya goof.  We were literally shaking from holding back laughter and the guy was looking at us, totally confused.  Laughing now, just thinking of it.

And I swear if you ever have to buy piping, for whatever reason, I'm going with you!

(Too bad there's no plumbing emoticon)

I was fine up until he started asking all those questions about U joints and fittings and stuff! I'm not used to having to be in a closet anymore! And, gawds.. he just went on and on and what the hell do I know about plumbing?? Nothing! LOL

Hell, if anything I find it difficult when shopping for normal things to not associate the stuff for BDSM use!   I don't know how many times I went to Lowes/Home Depot even Wal-Mart for stuff for Normal Use, only to have my mind thinking about other uses for the Stuff I was looking it.

I see the world differently to you or anyone else although there may be similarities in how we see it. it only takes one point of difference to make it thus. I.E. I can not see through your eyes and you can't see through mine.

I once went with a Dom to buy one canoe ore. The salesman could not understand why he only wanted one, he kept saying" you need both". He just said "nope just one is good".  We had the biggest laugh over that one.

I'm in and out of hardware and fishing/camping stores a lot. Automatically, I assess rope and chains as I do steel and other metals from the perspective of bondage gear, sword and dagger forging and use in my workshop/dungeon and boat use. It is just another way some or all of these can be used. Nothing special and everyone knows my kink anyway. My point is I don't see my kink or lifestyle as something extra special or all that different ewxcept it is more honest in that I freely admit to those close to me what I love and am into. better that than trying to mystify the kink and how it crops up daily when out or titter.giggle behind my hand when some mundanre person says something and I alone there knows the other way of seeing things. But then I'm not known for my sence of humor either.

That reminds me of a shopping experience I had with ShiftedJewel. We were in a fabric store and Jewel found a great sale on PVC. So she loaded up the cart and took it to the desk to have it cut. There was this little old church lady/crafty grandma type at the counter. Bolt after bolt, Jewel laid them on the table. "I need 10 yards of this one and 10 yards of that one". The lady said something about "Oh, someone must be making rain slickers". Jewel said no. The lady asked, "What are you going to make with all of this?". Jewel matter of factly said "Formal dresses". The lady looked quizzical and just said "Oh, how....interesting......". I nearly busted a gut!

A friend from work and I were heading toward an adult toy store at lunch.  One of our rather innocent guy-buddies wanted to have lunch with us and asked what we were doing for lunch.  Conversation went something like:

Guy friend:  Hey what are you guys doing for lunch?

Girl friend:  (Grinning at me) We're going to Home Depot

Guy:  Home Depot??  What do you need from Home Depot?

(Pause)

Girl Friend:  "Owned" needs a new plunger

(laughter)

Guy:  What the hell is so funny about a new plunger?

Girl friend:  It's a special kind of plunger

Guy:  Cool - I'll join you and then we can have lunch later

Me:  I'm not sure you want to go to this particular Home Depot....

We finally told him where we were really headed, but not without everyone getting a good chuckle out of it.

This reply made me think of an incident that occurred recently.  I had found a 50 dollar bill on the parking lot at Safeway recently.  It was stuck under the wheel of a grocery cart, believe it or not.  Anyway, I decided to purchase something I had been wanting for a while...a horse's crop.  So...I headed over to Murdoch's, just a short jaunt from Safeway and I looked over their line of crops.  I finally chose one and went up to the counter to pay for it.  I was dressed for the office as it was noon and I had been out doing errands during my noon hour.  The clerk looked at me rather funny and said "Excuse me, Sir...but you don't look like someone who works with horses a lot."
I just smiled and said "You're right...I don't work with horses."  Picked up my new crop and walked away...

girls father owns and raises horses so a visit to his house comes with a visit to the barn to see all of the new tack, just to get ideas..he never understands why someone without horses wants to play with all of the new whips and such.....
plus the smell of the leather is enticing....
