I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week but I'm not manic about it.

I swim and sauna 3 or 4 times a week and have a balanced diet......always make room for a beer or two....like you, Popeye, I'm nowhere near obsessive about it. 'Never been to a gym in my life......

I've always liked to go for a walk and do that a couple times a week too.

Same here.....but more for the scenery than fitness.....I was lucky enough to be brought up in the countryside near the coast, and currently live near the coast and in a city that is 10 minutes from some breathtaking countryside....

I've always had strong legs and butt from walking all my life.

I've got a cock like a trojan horse....given half a chance, it will batter its way through the wildest of terrain......'nothing to do with walking, 'plenty to do with a generous owner....

I do curls ... 12 fl oz. at a time... For aerobic workouts - nothing beats sex. As far as cardio - well nothing gets the heart racing more than sitting next to an incompetent idiot attempting to land an airplane! Beyond that - I like to scuba dive. Sounds low impact but climbing in and out of a pitching boat with 200+ pounds of gear can be a work out, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, etc. Kind of like walking - but on rough terrain with a rifle in hand.

I am afraid I have a shocking confession in regards to the OP.

I am lazy.  I dont have a regiment.

The last month- has not been good.   The closest I come is I used a bike a few times. A real bike is very different then a stationary bike...in that you get out of house and see the town in ways you dont in a car.

There is 2 stairways here. I wondered why I use the back stairway more.  They go oposite directions.  So between that and yardwork thats the extent of it.

I am not disciplined or motivated enuff to do what is supposed to be done.    Mabye there is a med for it....  [typical lazy American reply..]

Irishknight -> RE: What do you do to stay in shape? (5/17/2008 6:45:16 AM)

I have actually lost 30 lbs since I started my recovery from injury and illness.  I still need to drop another 25 but I allowed life to get in the way of living.
I do train, exercise and ride the horses we use for jousting but not nearly as much as I want or as much as I should.

Aynne -> RE: What do you do to stay in shape? (5/17/2008 6:59:55 AM)

That is a great one popeye, I do that one too, about once or twice a month.. Very cleansing. I also eat a ton of fresh fish. Usually raw[:D]....

Oh, and sometimes I'll fast for a day or two.
Like yesterday, nothing to eat just fruit juice and water to drink.

wandersalone -> RE: What do you do to stay in shape? (5/17/2008 7:06:41 AM)

I've been going to a gym for about 5 years.  I average three to four times a week and do weights (excruciatingly embarassingly low weights compared to a lot of the muscly blokes that go....who am I kidding, a lot of the seniors lift heavier weights than me!!!) and some fitball exercises for core strength, I may have a bit of a walk on the treadmill and then go to the spa, steam room and sauna (the best part).

And yes I confess that there are one or two gym junkies whom I enjoy watching....very intently when they are there as well. [:D]

And I spent most of my money on wine women and song.
The rest I wasted.

That is a great quote! I use a Schwinn AirDyne every other day, along with an old Performance heart rate monitor. Walk a couple miles up my road and back almost every day. That's the cardio. For the rest of it, I use a BowFlex that I bought earlier this year. I'm going to the bike shop today to look at mountain bikes.

Eat steak, drink a little booze, make love, walk, nap, laugh, meditate, lift weights.

i eat more in one meal than most grown men eat all day.  i fuck like it's the last day on earth, and i have a labor intensive job; is there any other way?[:)]

I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week but I'm not manic about it.
And I'm not a body builder either.
I do 40 minutes of cardio on the treadmill followed by an hour or so on the machines for a total body workout.
I've always liked to go for a walk and do that a couple times a week too.
I think nothing of going down to the beach and walking 3-5 miles.
I've always had strong legs and butt from walking all my life.
Also I might take a bike ride 1 or 2 times a week.
I think excercise should be fun!
What do you do?

christine1 -> RE: What do you do to stay in shape? (5/17/2008 9:10:04 AM)

what do i do?  i think about it a lot, does mental exertion count?

i've got a really physical job, after 9 hours on my feet all day and tons of walking, i have a hard time getting geared up about exercise.

califsue -> RE: What do you do to stay in shape? (5/17/2008 10:09:58 AM)

i was doing Curves but had to quit do to an injury from a car accident in 2007 and just
recently had surgery to repair and will be 6 to 12 months for full recovery.

now i try walking and doing some modified set ups, leg lifts and arm exercises 3 to 4 times a week. try and drink more water and make better eating choices though at times i revert back to the old habits. feel better when i do the exercises and healthier eating choices...though i doubt i will ever be society's standard of 'slim/thin' as i have always
been one of those who are of a fuller figure.

OK,

Now to answer the question.  I walk a couple of miles a day.  I
find that the days that I don't feel like it are the days I feel best about
it afterwards.

Also I read food ingredients labels, not the lies on the front of the
package.  This is one time government regulation has proven to be
a very good thing.  What you are putting in your body makes a big
difference.  I also spend more money each week at the local veggie
stands than I do the supermarket.

Christine, yeah, that counts!
Sometimes I wrestle with my conscience.

Maya2001 -> RE: What do you do to stay in shape? (5/17/2008 3:23:55 PM)

I work as an autoworker so get a combined weight /cardio workout  add to that doing housework and yard chores, and take care of  4 dogs ranging from 13 pounds to 86.  ... I need to keep my calorie intake on the high side
