I got a lovely gift the other day, a beautiful convection heater. It is right now sitting next to my comfy chair blasting out what my partner calls "air the tempurature of hell itself"
I highly recommend that if you are planning to buy an electic heater this year (and you should, the gas prices alone make it worth while) then buy one soon. We had to go to three different stores before we even found one that had any in stock and it's only October!

I have one of those convection heaters, too. They are great. But then, I live in southern NM, so right now it's about 72 degrees, it will probably hit 80 today, and when it DOES get cold, my passive solar house will stay nice and toasty inside.

I'll be wearing shorts and a t-shirt today, and have all my house windows open. Remind me to call my Mom today and tell her that. She lives in Michigan's UP, where they probably are already under 10 feet of snow.

At least the attic may be insulated. I used to own a cabin an "A" frame. Had a loft as well. In the winter you would sleep up there. Turn on the heater..which heat rises. So around midnight you'd be going back down the stairs to turn it off. An hour later you'd be shivering in bed...back down to turn it back on. There was never a happy medium.

I fee for you.

I'm with you on that! I couldn't live without my space heater! I've worn two of them out in the past couple of years just from using them so much. It's a good thing that I bought three great ones while they were on sale!

Yeah, my sister lives out in Florida and I had to listen to her today about how warm it is at her house. And here I am freezing my butt off (and to top it off it's hailing )

The upstairs was insulated about 40 years ago, but at this point it doesn't do much good anymore. We got another heater to put upstairs in the bedroom and we have TONS of quilts (and then there is always bosy heat )

Forget those quilts, get an electric blanket. The new one's are so warm. I'm starting out this year by saying I will not turn on my heater unless I'm almost frozen to death. I live in an area of So Cal where if you use no utilities at all, the bare minimum I still pay 3-4 hundred a month for electricity. Two hundred for gas each month.
Since they claim they have went up 30-40% I don't want the bill. The fireplace will due for the house and the electric blanket for the bedroom. At least it is a good plan today.

Flannel sheets work really well, too. They don't get cold.

I live in a 103-yr-old brick house with NO insulation between the brick and the walls, so it gets really cold in here in the winter! I've got space heaters in a few rooms... have had 'em for YEARS and they still work great. Just got a really cheap, dual-fan oscillating heater with a thermostat for like $26 online, and this thing works GREAT! My toes no longer freeze while sitting at my computer desk on the second floor. It's a Holmes 1-Touch for those interested in getting one.
