ORIGINAL: slaveboyforyou I'm not happy he's dying, but I can't say I am sympathetic. It has nothing to do with his politics. I think about him leaving Mary Jo Kopechne in a watery grave, than walking back to his hotel room past several houses without calling for help. I am still not convinced that it was an accident. I also think he helped his nephew cover up the rape he was accused of. I really don't give a damn about the Kennedys and I have never understood this fascination and celebrity worship that surrounds them. Apparently you have much lingering hate. First there was never any evidence ever presented that Kennedy actually killed Mary Jo but was guilty certainly of involuntary manslaughter (accidental death) and leaving the scene. Yes, two felonies for which he never served time. Your hate comes out even further when whatever the Kennedys did during the 'rape' investigation turned out to be irrelevant once everybody had testified. She was a partyer and also a philanderer The clincher was when the girl (defendant) testified herself that she actually took part in 'her rape' when she pulled his zipper down. This was in a car before the getting back to the Kennedy place and to the beach. Once the jury heard that, well..... So no cover-up was required at all and to suggest otherwise is inventing a reason to hate the man. The celebrity around the Kennedys' was started and promoted by Joseph Kennedy Sr. back in the 20's and 30's when he went west to do movies, starting fucking Gloria Swanson (all over the tabloids) ("Either Rose Kennedy is a saint or a better actress than I am" Gloria, after it became public) and then he (Sr.) very publicly went after an ambassorship...and got it. So HE made the family quite public. After that it was JFK's heroism (true heroism) in WWII and his later run for the senate and of course the presidency that brought that family again to the limelight. JFK, and RFK both could have been president with Robert following but he had to go to.
