That s & m isn't required, isn't the be-all and end-all of BDSM. As someone who has zero interest in pain, it's frequently been made clear to me that I don't belong here because all 'true' s & mers are into pain play. Well, I'm not. For us it's d/s and bondage. As a beginner outside the mainstream of BDSM, being told I didn't belong was not helpful. Had I been told that I was in the minority, that would have been entirely different. The other thing everyone should know? Relationships are relationships are relationships. If you're unable to get or maintain a relationship in the vanilla world, you aren't going to magically acquire a good one here. Relationship skills are universal. They include; respect for your partner, listening skills, clear communication skills, and tons more.
