bbwdommelilith -> INFO FOR KINK-CURIOUS (5/20/2008 5:33:16 PM)

When you became aware of your kinky fantasies- but before you became active in the scene- what would you have really wanted to know about BDSM? If you had had had a very basic primer about BDSM, what questions would you have liked to have answered? And what preconceived notions did you have that you later found were way off base?

That fantasizing about hitting women didn't make me a disgusting wife-beater.  When I hear stories about teenage homosexuals who feel incredibly guilty about their "sinful sexuality" I can totally relate.

I'm sorry to reply but not give a real answer to what you're asking, but read your questions and again have to pipe in with my own experiences.

The two weren't separate and what little progression there was was the other way around -in each aspect I either started doing with others when a thought or urge came to mind or did something with someone and Then it became an interest of mine.

Now, I've only in the past couple years become part of the specific, themed, public-group version of BDSM.  Is that what you're asking about?  If so, I'd have to answer your questions with "nothing", because I didn't enter with preconceptions or questions... I just met more folks who had similar interests and kept myself open to whatever I'd learn, like anytime I meet people or move to a new place.  I'd already been active in PE/BDSM exchanges one-on-one and in groups of friends since childhood and developing on so it was just more opportunities to add to what I'd been doing since about 2nd grade.

That s & m isn't required, isn't the be-all and end-all of BDSM. As someone who has zero interest in pain, it's frequently been made clear to me that I don't belong here because all 'true' s & mers are into pain play. Well, I'm not. For us it's d/s and bondage.

As a beginner outside the mainstream of BDSM, being told I didn't belong was not helpful. Had I been told that I was in the minority, that would have been entirely different.

The other thing everyone should know? Relationships are relationships are relationships. If you're unable to get or maintain a relationship in the vanilla world, you aren't going to magically acquire a good one here. Relationship skills are universal. They include; respect for your partner, listening skills, clear communication skills, and tons more.
