ZandD -> What are your Top 10 desert island discs? (10/22/2005 11:35:54 AM)

You are stranded on a desert island waiting for rescue with all of the provisions you need to keep you alive. You have a way to play CD's and you have the choice of 10 CD's that you HAVE TO HAVE. What are they?

Mine:

1. Prince - Sign O' The Times (Warner Brothers) (1987)

2. The Beatles - Abbey Road (Apple Records)(1970)

3. Ursula 1000 - Ursadelica (ESL Records)(2004)

4. Ella Fitzgerald - Best Of The Songbooks (Verve Records) (1996)

5. The Doobie Brothers - The Captain And Me (1973)

6. Rimsky-Korsakov - Scherezade/The Russian Easter Overture

7. Gustav Holst - The Planets

8. B.B. King - Live At Cook County Jail (ABC/Dunhill Records)(1971)

9. Colourhaus - Water To The Soul (1994?) (Interscope Records)

10. Prince - Small Club-2nd Show That Night (1988-French Release)

One that would be hard to leave behind: Prince - The 5 disc "Crystal Ball" package (NPG Records/EMI) (1999)

I'd take recorded books

Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook
Rough Water: Stories of Survival from the Sea
Wild: Stories of Survival from the World's Most Dangerous Places
Death in the Jungle: Diary of a Navy Seal
Rescue: Stories of Survival from Land and Sea

That actually would come to more than 10 CDs (a few of mine are on tape instead so it's hard to judge) but I could cut it to fit

[:D]John!

Tower Records used to have an in-store magazine (they might still have) that listed readers and musicians "Desert Island Discs". This is my take off on that. Funny that in the last 10 years my list hasn't changed much.

BTW, I love hearing your responses to posts and I have read at least part of your book but since we moved, I can't find it anywhere[:o][:@][&o].

Thanks for being a bright light on a foggy plain.....

I guess it would fit on a couple of CDs if you use a compressed format.
In case the rescue doesn't come and you want to cross the ocean on a very primitive boat, and survive, I advise you Naufragé Volontaire (Voyage of l'hérétique, in english - I didn't link to the amazon page because it doesn't contain any information), by Dr. Alain Bombard. Last july I re-read this book, and Bombard died the next week... Maybe I shouldn't read your books after all ;).

NakedOnMyChain -> RE: What are your Top 10 desert island discs? (10/22/2005 1:04:38 PM)

1.) Depeche Mode - The Singles Set
2.) David Bowie - 30th Anniversary Ziggy Stardust
3.) Spacehog - The Chinese Album
4.) Better Than Ezra - Greatest Hits
5.) Blind Melon - Classic Masters... or Soup, not sure which
6.) Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
7.) Pedro the Lion - Control
8.) Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
9.) Velvet Goldmine - The Soundtrack
10.) The Cure - Disintegration

This hurts my brain to think of leaving behind such great music. If I could take a CD that's not out yet, but is going to be awesome, it would be the project that my husband's working on with his band. I went to their practice last night and it's awesome! It's very Jimmy Eat World meets Depeche Mode and stabbed with the Cure. I love it.

That's me... a lighthouse [grin]

[capitalist smile] Most online retailers have Loving Dominant. Also my publisher sells direct (www.greenerypress.com) In fact the bitch [said with a nice smile] is discontinuing Murder at Roissy so it's on sale now for five bucks. I guess that royalty stream is drying up.

DesertRat -> RE: What are your Top 10 desert island discs? (10/22/2005 4:09:23 PM)

1. Miles Davis - In A Silent Way

2. Beatles - Revolver

3. Queen - Jazz

4. Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home

5. The Stooges - Stooges/FunHouse (custom burn)

6. Joni Mitchell - Court And Spark/Blue (custom burn)

7. John Coltrane - Giant Steps

8. NY Philharmonic w/Bernstein - Beethoven: Opus 67 in c minor (Fifth Symphony)

9. Some really good version of The Nutcracker

10. Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street

Then I would radio for a Neil Young air drop and comb the beach, looking for Doors, Who, Thomas Dolby, Earth Wind & Fire, and anything else good that might wash up.

Ten is not enough!! How am I gonna survive without Beggar's Banquet?

Bob
