Sorry to differ, but, and im often wrong.  A lot of that was just bondage.  i didnt have the sound on, so the music was irrelevant.
Having been on the receiving end of shibari, i find most of it just mind numbingly boring. It takes forever to do, equal length of time to undo. Ok to the person practising macrami it might look good in the end, but my personal view. Get a plastic doll who wont complain at standing around forever.

Yes i know, not very sub of me, but if the tying up takes an hour, ive kind of lost the plot before the rest starts.

Its quite ok to differ frazzle
i will never understand diapers and age play - noone could ever convince me that a grown man or woman in diapers with a pacifer in their mouth is a beautiful and erotic image. Nor could anyone convince me that bruised and broken skin from a whip or cane is beautiful.

In shibari, atleast what little i have been exposed to, it taps into the higher brain functions of meditation and mental control. Definitely not for everyone, especially those looking for a quick fix. For me, it is an art form and worth the time it takes to create...

I will concur with dawn here. It does take time but it is an art form to begin with. So the wait is worth it.

jute is incredibly painful, i was trussed up in it several times this weekend and it was excruciating....wow!...i told lee it might have to be a hard limit...i was pulling rope splinters out of my bits for two days...

Well prepared jute is only a little more scratchy than hemp. Rope splinters are usually not that erotic, but easy to avoid.

Shibari techniques in general are performace art techniques and very quick to tie and untie. You've probably been tied by someone witthout knowledge and experience.

Right, but it first takes a little time to get used to all these takates and ebis and stuff;)
And...not every rigger doing japanese-oriented bondage wants to be a performer.

Probably, but perhaps by someone who was still learning and had to improve!?

Yes, for beginners, Shibari (or what ever you'll call it) takes some time. It's a little bit more complicated than flag for example. But at one point, when the technique is known and the rigger can concentrate more and more at his ropeslut, all the effort was worth it.

Thanks for those videos!  Yesterday Alpha got really frustrated with tying something and it ruined the mood of our scene... Those tutorials are just the kind of thing we're looking for.

Quite true. But wheter one is a performer or not doesn't change the least bit about the fact that shibari techniques in general are pretty fast. And frazzle121 claimed to have been on the receiving end of shibari. Not of japanese-oriented bondage.

Sure. And practising can be utterly boring with someone who isn't into it. I can certainly agree with her that if the tying takes up to an hour, that not very exciting (although I know people on whom going slow worsk miracles). Personally, I tend to separate play from practice for that very reason.

But regardless of that, I simply disagree with her that most of shibari is mind numbingly boring, taking forever to do and undo, and primarily focused on making the rigger look good. With an experienced rigger it can also be quick as lightning and providing one hell of a ride for the bottom.

Unless, of course, rope just doesn't turn you on.

Ok, there we are at one about what you wrote.
I was at first just stumbling on the performance part ;)
