BrigandDoom -> Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/22/2008 2:02:22 PM)

Just read this juicy little morsel, looks like the courts have given the authorities a hell of a slap down ---> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24777095

That's what happens when people don't have their ID in Texas and they piss off the constabulary [:D] . Thankfully, the Courts prevail [8|] .

To me...regretfully not thankfully... I do believe the children should return to their parents however.

That is a weird bunch down there...of course just in my opinion

Weird? You can say that again, bunch of nutters... You'd think the XXth century never ever happened. Let alone the XXIst.

DomKen -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/22/2008 2:30:47 PM)

This is getting a very odd spin.

The court did not order the return of all the ums. The appelate court did acknowledge that all the post puberty females were in imminent danger and I doubt they'll be returning to the ranch. The state has 10 days to present evidence the other ums are in danger if returned to the ranch. Whch just means getting various and sundry survivors of the FLDS on the stand and them telling a judge what they went through. It may be a technical victory but I would be shocked if a single um returns to the ranch.

BTW these people are much worse than Koresh's group and since there is no way I can describe the horrors of this group without violating the site rules I'll simply point people to this:

It should be a case by case deal.IMO,most of/all the UMs should at least be re-joined w/ the moms.

There`s nothing good or uplifting about this story, unfortunately, and there`s more tragedies ahead for a lot of these folks.

The abusers and cult leaders though, should rot in a cell for a long long time.

Irishknight -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/22/2008 7:04:56 PM)

After all the smoke clears, it will be those who believe in polygamy and polyamory between adults who will get stuck with the stigma from a few child molesters.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/22/2008 7:13:40 PM)

Well, people should really read about the history of the FLDS cults.  Assassinations, coersion, blackmail, and bribery have been common place in it for a long time.  It isn't just the men that do these things either.  Several men and women are wanted by the FBI in connection with homicides ordered by FLDS elders.  Blood libel is part of their doctrine, and it's openly talked about in their sermons.  The FLDS folks are dangerous (think of them as Mormon mobsters), and the authorities made the right call in investigating them.

Irishknight -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/22/2008 8:48:52 PM)

I won't disagree with you there.  I'm just tired of nutjobs like this giving those of us who lead a different lifestyle a bad name.

Dangerous to whom?  What threats have they made against others not of their faith?

Oh, I guess it's okay that they kill their own members and stockpile weapons in case they need to shoot it out with law enforcement.  I guess it's okay that they have taken over entire towns before.

Do your own research, you know what I am talking about.  Here's an FBI wanted poster for one of them now:

LadyEllen -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/23/2008 1:41:34 AM)

From time to time here, we get a number of posters who see a bloody revolution against the US government as the inevitable result of growing disenfranchisement, manipulation, division and exploitation.

And yet, when we come across a group which has taken a stance which premeditates for such a situation, we are informed that they are a dangerous bunch of sexual predators, against whom the US government must act.

Does anyone here think, that this is not all a little convenient that those who make the effort to separate themselves from subjection to what is often described here as a corrupt system, all turn out to be dangerous, violent, sexual predators?

mm good point.
that is one to think about.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/23/2008 4:27:01 AM)

I've never said that the United States is destined for another civil war.  I celebrate our rebellious culture, but these people are absolutely out of their minds.  All of the things I said about them are the truth.  They have repeatedly murdered their own people in blood libel hits.  They kick young men out of their communities on to the streets, so the old geezers can have all the young girls to themselves.  They took over a town on the Utah-Arizona border.  They owned the town council and the police department.  They put it on the border so they could hop back and forth to avoid state law enforcement.  They coerced and blackmailed property owners in the area.  They would come in and "reassign" wives to other men.  These people are fucking douchebags.  None of them should be raising children just so they can perpetuate this shit.  It's not about polygamy.  You'll find that the government tends to stay out of that.  It all the other corruption and criminal behavior that goes on in FLDS sects.

kittinSol -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/23/2008 4:45:11 AM)

Seems to me like the concept of 'religious freedom' is used to justify a sectarian society that doesn't give a damn about the welfare of its youngest members, but is only concerned with the self-fulfilment of its leaders.

If that is your defense of a group with a reputaton for being racist, violent, child molesters long before this incident,  you aren't doing too well.
The history of this bunch has been posted repeatedly here on the CM forums and in the news, and yet people still want to ignore that and pretend this is all about freedom from the 'evil gummint'.[&o]

BrigandDoom -> RE: Not Waco 2 as claimed by some. (5/23/2008 4:59:48 AM)

As the original poster I wasn't fully aware of the background to this case. It seems there was justification for fears, just a pity the authorities didn't do a wee bit more research before stampeding in. Unfortunately, the state having a finger wagged at it by a judge has given some legitimacy to the cult in the outside world.

I've no doubt that there are those who choose to use the chat forums as a way of hiding their own warped ways, however there does seem to be an OTT response in both the UK and the US in regards to certain alleged activities, which seem not to be against legitimate kinksters, but more for "good press"!

Unfortunately, "the history of this bunch" that has been in the news has almost exclusively come from the "evil gummint".
