ORIGINAL: LadyEllen Did any of the other dying and rising Godmen of Mediterranean cults 1000BC to 250AD, of which Christ is simply a Jewish form amongst exactly matching forms from all over the Mediterranean, save any of the people on other planets? Would it matter to you? The Good News BTW... transends any Church. Of course it matters. If Jesus is the only true and unique Godman, and his sacrifice on the cross was real and effective, then it matters a great deal. Thing is though, there were dozens of others that preceded and followed and were around at the time, for the followers of whom they were true, unique, real and effective. We're not talking prophets here, but Gods who were men in "pagan" cults of all cultures, who died and rose again, washing away the sin of their followers. Why it also matters is to do with the time and place of the Jesus myth too, when we're talking about galactic salvation. Why the Earth? Why Jerusalem? Why 1975 or so Earth years ago? Why not Alpha Centauri III, twenty thousand Earth years ago? If people on Earth prior to Jesus are damned until 33AD, then what of the countless trillions upon trillions of aliens who died twenty thousand Earth years ago on Alpha Centauri III? And how do those living on Alpha Centauri III today, know about the death and apparent resurrection of someone who but for our own perverse history and the Roman emperor Constantine would have remained obscure at best and most likely forgotten even on this planet? E LE, good points. I think "God" is more nature based.
