Status: offline 		In what seems like an attempt to win over the Jewish vote in Florida, Obama said that he fully supports Israel and the Jewish nation would recieve "unshakable support" from his administration. Obama also said he wanted to make it clear that he "would not" speak with Hamas if he's elected President.

Obama is apparently trying to shake off criticism by John McCain and Senator Joe Lieberman that Obama plans to speak to countries like Syria and Iran who are supporting Palestinian terrorist acts against Israel.

The pro-Israel propaganda is so all pervasive and so uncritical in the American media, even when Israel is daily commiting human rights crimes and breaking international law, any candidate for president has to be pro-Israeli, even if such a policy is against American interest or even if Israel is actively working against American interests.

Of course you do know that this is bullshit. Israel is a nuclear power with enough arms to turn Iran to glass, it also has the most powerful army in the entire region with the blessing of the US tax payer.

Israel's real worry isn't Iran, its not making peace and further down the road the US falling off its superpower perch and unable to prtect Israel with vetoes in international forum and other free countries fed up of Israeli aggression, human rights crimes and breaking of international law.

The US bangs on about axis of evil but it is Israel that occupies the land of other people, it is Israel that has a policy of ethnic cleansing, it is Israel that is in the process of stealing and annexing other people's land, it is Israel that has the world's largest concentration camp, it is Israel subjugating another people. Only the Americans are blind to that for some idiotic religious reason.

If the US was really Israel's friend, they would be encouraging them to have dialog with their enemies, give back the land they have stolen for peace and encourage the wider cooperation of the international community in seeking a solution.

Yea, and what has Bush and the neo-cons done apart from making the whole region more unstable and more dangerous? The only thing US policy has encouraged is more terrorism. If Obama is a buffoon, he is still far and away more intelligent than Bush and Co. Bush was not credible on foreign policy but the American people still voted him in and voted him in again after PROVING he was not credible on foraign policy.

Bush`s failed ME policy, is one of the reasons for the highest oil prices in world history.

I think all of the major candidates lack what we truly need in the office.  That has been the consistent problem for most of my adult life.  The major parties run the inept, the inexperienced, the corrupt, or the useless.  We need to start running candidates with ABILITY instead of just ELECTABILITY.  If we had two good candidates running, we would find ourselves electing a decent president.

Despite the death of King Hussain, Jordan is still a Western friendly state, as is Egypt on the quiet. Even Colonel Gadaffi is now western friendly, he know he needs Yankie dollar and British pound!

Is it just me, or is that not a somewhat troubling idea to begin with?

Are these Americans loyal to the USA or to Israel?

Given the numbers of Muslims in the US these days, why is there no similar attempt to win their votes by promising support for Islamic countries?

Is US foreign policy beholden to a certain group of Americans by virtue of their religion? If so, why is this not an issue when "right wing Christians" are so vilified when they seek control of foreign policy?

Surely all voters should be loyal to the principles on which the US was founded and not a great deal more? Such principles as might constitute a neutral moral highground from which to produce a peace deal far more effectively than this partisan approach?

It's mostly historical habit.  During the cold war Israel was the one reliable ally the US had in the region.  And they have proven useful, doing things the US dare not do (like take out Iraq's nuclear reactor program in the 80s and stopping Hussein's quest for nuclear weapons dead in its tracks).
