BUTLER, Mo. -- A local car dealer is holding a controversial promotion involving guns.

Max Motors in Butler is offering anyone who buys a car the choice of $250 in gas or a free semi-automatic handgun.

"Like I say, it's a choice -- protection or gas," said Walter Moore with Max Motors.

It doesn't say what particular gun they are giving away.  I'd have to know that before I made my choice.  The barbershop where I go was having a raffle last month to send one of their barbers to some convention.  They were giving away a choice between a MAK-90 or a Mossberg 500.  I signed up for it, but I didn't win.  I would have taken the MAK-90; I already have a shotgun.

For an additional fee of $20 he'll even shoot your child in the head for you.

I love this argument.  More kids die riding bicycles and in swimming pools every year than they do from firearms.  So I guess we should accuse pool merchants and bicycle shops of being death merchants as well.  [8|]

You can put the $250 on the gun of your choice, I think.

ya know what the biggest child-killer is?

irresponsible parents. My grandpa had more guns than Rambo and I never played with any of them unless he was supervising... My ma had 2 9mms and a 22 rifle, and I never shot anyone, ever... Know why? they were kept locked up and unloaded

But its okay for a childless person... right?

Would take a bit too long to protect yourself with them in the event of an intruder, would it not?

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Guns or gas? (5/24/2008 12:00:36 PM)

usually the threat of violence is all thats needed, not the actual violence. If ya know the combo to it, the mini-safes are quick to open.... of course, I never knew the combo...

I don't think it's right for anyone but I've said this many times and I’ll be saying it many times more.

It's interesting to read surivialist websites.  They tend to be gun nuts. yet they miss obvious things that can help you survive.  For example a passport is a must have if you want to escape the country.

I think a jerry can full of fuel will get you further than a firearm in an emergency.  Look at New Orleans.  It was better to leave than stay and fight it out with a pistol.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Guns or gas? (5/24/2008 12:04:27 PM)

I was always taught in my suvival classes that a good knife was much better than any gun in most cases... (hard to skin your food with an uzi :P)

Well there's some truth to that.  But you can make a reasonably good knife with common materials fairly easily.  It's a little more difficult to make your own semi-automatic firearm with stuff in your garage.

popeye1250 -> RE: Guns or gas? (5/24/2008 12:08:24 PM)

I'd take the $250 worth of gas instead.
You're not going to get much of a gun for $250 these days.

Unless he's got a deal with some gun maker, he must be handing out junk.  I'm not a fan of semiautos but one of my submissives asked me a few weeks ago to go shopping with her and she spent almost a thousand dollars for one.  I didn't see anything worth carrying for under $450.

*rifles through garage* (no pun intended)

Damn you're right... guess Ill have to take a knife and a gun next time I go hiking :P

John and Popeye have a point; maybe they're just happy to shave the $250 off of something pricier?
