I know, I know... a good sub would give his Master a pedicure, but here's what is going on...

My Master's birthday is coming up; hold the phone-- and I didn't get her much last year as I didn't have much of an income as I was still a student in college.  Now I have a bit more money and was thinking of treating her out to a spa day... thing is, that a spa day is great-- but so much better when with a friend (I have been told by my sisters when I mentioned the idea to them)... So now I am looking to provide pedicures to my Master and her best friend -- as well as manicures.

I have never been to a spa so I really don't know what is the best for them (and for the budget!).  For those with experience, am I better off getting a gift card (although I feel these are quite impersonal) at a day spa or a nail place-- and I was thinking I could be there when they get the treatments so I could pay for it without them knowing exaclty how much it costs and so I can drive them back home.
Are there any other treatments that you've gotten that you particularly enjoy that I should look into as well?

Thanks so much for your help!  I am looking forward to any responses!

Actually I enjoy that activity when the boy reads to Me---very relaxing, very one on one and cheaper too---food for thought--smiles

Facials are really nice and relaxing. Also... try looking into a beauty college. They often have nice facilities with a majorly discounted rates. Getting your hair cut or colored there may be a little risky as you don't know who you are going to get as a stylist but pedicure, manicures and facials are a fairly safe bet. They often have packages that you can purchase ahead of time.  And another good idea for another time is massages from a massage school as they are often half the price of a spa.

Picking the ladies is also a nice touch. Often you are leaving the spa with wet nails and opening car doors and digging out your keys is not an easy task:)

wow, thanks...

yeah, never even thought of some of that stuff.  There is a beauty college right in town and I assume they offer pedicure, manicure services, as well as facials.

I think this is only the second pedicure She has ever gotten... her friend she is bringing get them all the time.  Her feet are increadable-- I just think having the moral support of a friend who's familar with such indulgences will help ease the nerves, eh?

really though, thanks for the responses; you're helping more than you know!

Spa and salon costs vary GREATLY, even among those of the same quality and service level, but just like with any sort of place after spending some time in that business she'll be able to make a rough guess at how their rates run... I'd not be terribly concerned about her or her friend knowing the cost.  I mean, truly, with just about anything not hand-made a person knows roughly what a gift cost so don't fret on that.  Focus your worries instead on finding a good place they'll enjoy.

Many allow pre-payment and gift packages just for this sort of thing!  Visit some around your area and get quotes on the procedures they offer and what your master may like.

As to recommended procedures, well of course you need to go by your master's tastes, but I pretty reliably enjoy pedicures, facials and massage (of about any sort, but feet, hands and face are especially good in my opinion!).  A facial will make me pass right the heck out most times.

Biggest thing to look into is the behavior and attitude of the spa or salon personnel.  When you look into quotes, talk to them and get a feel for the place.  Despite the cost considerations, I'd strongly urge you to Not consider a school to provide it due to my experiences with both visiting as a customer and attending as a student *unless* you know of one in your area that is astounding... I'd suggest gifting less services at a great spa/salon with highly professional and good-attitude personnel than more at a local school.

Basically, just go to them and ask questions, get the feel and prices, etc.  Then you'll have a much better idea of what places are desirable in your area, what you can afford, what is involved in what procedure and it'll make your decision much easier!  You won't be trying to guess blindly :)

I'm with RumpusParable - spa treatments are special and should be relaxing.  I would not want to go to a school for one.  I'd much rather get less done at a nicer spa.  The idea is to relax, and I don't know that I would relax with a student doing the job...asking questions...other students around...etc.

Two ladies getting pedicures together is always fun.  That is generous of you to think of treating her friend.  If you don't like the gift card idea, you can call the salon and pay for the appointments when you make them (if you can pay with a Visa over the phone), otherwise, pay for them in advance, in person, when you make the appointments.  Chaufferring them is also a nice idea.

First thought that comes into my head after reading your post, " I hope this isn't the case of the lazy slave"?

I would much more prefer MY sub/slave giving me the pedicure and/or manicure than going to the Spa. Don't know how? Look up the procedure on the net. Get some fabulous nail colors that your Master and her best friend would love. Go to a beauty supply and get what you need, ask for advice while you are there, what massage cream or oil would work best? Ask. No need to spend a fortune at the spa.

Jeepers!  Thanks for all the advice...

i've already looked into spas around here and found some that look pretty good;
And, i don't believe this is the case of a lazy slave-- more so, a slave that would have problems giving a french pedicure for the summer!  i can always keep the toes nice after; it's just that a professional will do a better job no matter how hard i read up on it.
secondly, treating her friend is a priority of mine.  i think her friend is a little off on the idea of thinking that her bestfriend's boyfriend (as she knows me as) touching her feet.  once when her friend was over, my Master kept hinting that i enjoy giving foot rubs but she would have nothing to do with it.  Sooo... who knows, maybe after the pedicure she'll be a little less reluctent- of course, it all comes down to what Master wants.

Ok, so i'll look into a spa and compare costs with beauty college costs.  i'll assume right away that it'll be far quite cheaper to get it done away from the spa, but I'll check to see if it is reasonable at a spa.  Thanks again for the suggestions and input.  i really wanted to make her birthday special this year and You are really helping!  if there is anything else, i appreciate your input.

by the way, i just think this world is crazy-- here am i-- would practically pay a female to allow me to give a pedicure; and here is my Master's friend who wouldn't even think to let me touch her feet.  And then there is the spa that collects $50 to touch her feet...

oh brother- what a world!

Oh, my reading voice.. let me tell you!  i love to read outloud, but mostly do it for children (i'm a teacher) so when i read to adults it often comes out in the same excitment and tone.  i'm sure it's just fine, but i don't know how relaxing that would be!

LOL!  One of my best beloved boys used to read me Steven King short stories.  He was always very spooky and dramatic.  It was great fun.

hmm... interesting...
i do need to do more reading as it is.  i never even thought that reading to someone- other than 2nd graders- could be enjoyable to all involved.  i'll try it out soon (Master is home from college and i'm still in collegeville.)
