I'm thinking if everyone (men and women both) all of a sudden decided to date/marry/whatever 1.5 to 2.0 numbers below what they think they are themselves, the world would be a better place.

IE, 10's should date 8.5's, 8.5"s should date 7's etc, etc.

I'm not sure why marrying someone supportive is considered settling?

Honestly, men who marry women with lesser looks tend to be users ime. They don't figure they have to interact with their own kids, get a decent job, etc. Smart women look for things more important than hotness. That matters in high school, but not in the real world.

In my world trading down would be unfortunate and not something I'd subject myself to. I want my life to be enhanced through a relationship. And that means choosing someone close to my equal.

I am confused why marrying a man who isn't model handsome is considered marrying down. I date men because I like them. Not for their looks. There must be some degree of attraction, but I have only dated 3 men who were better looking than Brad Pitt, Richard Gere, or George Clooney.
Marrying down for me would be hooking up with someone who was not in the same range of intelligence, or who thought of women as lessor beings.
That would be intolerable, even if he looked like Brad Pitt.

I have to say that I feel that my wife married down. Honestly, I think all of us should feel that way about our SO. If you think that your spouse married above his/herself than you must not have a high opinion of them. I married a great woman who could have married someone a lot better than me, IMO. I'm glad that she didn't agree.

Unfortunately, most women don't catch onto that fact until about 10-15 years AFTER high school, when many have already married the "hottie" who now treats them like shit.
