puella -> We are a bunch of Sexists and Misogynists, there can be nothing else for it! (5/27/2008 3:46:43 PM)

"History, I suspect, will look back on the past six months as an example of America going through one of its collectively deranged episodes - rather like Prohibition from 1920-33, or McCarthyism some 30 years later. This time it is gloating, unshackled sexism of the ugliest kind. It has been shamelessly peddled by the US media, which - sooner rather than later, I fear - will have to account for their sins. The chief victim has been Senator Hillary Clinton, but the ramifications could be hugely harmful for America and the world".

You know what....

Perhaps I am a misogynist.

Perhaps I am a sexist pig who never realized that I think all women should be barefoot and pregnant, baking pies in the kitchen and only making noise (positive "oohs" and "ahhs" and perhaps the occasional "spank me, I am a bad girl!") when I deem it appropriate. Perhaps that IS the reason that I, a resident of New York State, am not willing to vote for Hillary Clinton as my preferred choice for the Democratic Presidential nominee.

Oh, wait.... I am a woman... hrumph!

And you know what, as a woman, I am sick to death of the victim mentality and ever present martyrdom syndrome of that camp telling me and all who will hear that that is the reason she is losing... and yes, she is LOSING.

The very fact that she, and so many of her sister-soldier supporters are not only willingly, but eagerly donning the guise of the battered, delicate bloom of a girl being beaten up by mean, dirty boys shows THEIR willingness to legitimize one of the most disgusting and unearned misogynist stereotypes I can think of.

If you want to be a fighter, expect to get swipes back. If you are a girl fighting, do not label those swipes as sexist attacks when you are not winning the fight. To do so is the worst kind of sexist attack, that which self sustains sexism by someone of your own sex.

And for God's sake... please spare me Bill "sure I'll f*ck ya darlin'" Clinton as the guardian of womanly virtues and progression.

I am not voting for Hillary Clinton because in two terms as my elected representative, I have found her to be very very lacking. I do not see those issues resolved, but rather enhanced as campaign continues.

We had a chance for a woman to really blaze some trails for women in politics.... crying "like a girl" every time she does not get what she wants... does very little towards furthering that cause.

Wow... this is affecting you a lot. There has been a lot of misogyny aimed at Clinton. I think her gender has played in her disfavour. I think this is still a hugely patriarchal society that does not look upon a woman in a position of power favourably.

Now, if you don't think she's a good candidate, that's another story: it is you who is linking her gender to your not wishing to vote for her. So far, however, I have not heard that she was loosing because she is a woman, and I have seen little evidence of the victimhood mentality you mention .

The question now is, why do you think you are seeking validation for your decision?

thornhappy -> RE: We are a bunch of Sexists and Misogynists, there can be nothing else for it! (5/27/2008 3:56:54 PM)

Nope not a hint o' misogyny in the air....

"Wash my shirts!"
"How do we beat the bitch?"
"Do we really want to watch her age?"
Oh, and Cleavagegate.

Apparently Democrats have been presented with a choice:  be racists who vote against Obama or be sexist and vote against Clinton.

The Republicans have it easy:  Since the Democrats indelibly label them as being both sexist AND racist, they get to concentrate on candidate qualifications besides race and gender.

Very well put... the people who fall for Clinton's 'Now, I'm no racist, buuuuuut that Obama's one scary ...moozlim' are the same ones who pronounce all debunking of her mudslinging as 'sexist', and when her record of supporting the war, and rich mega-corporations is questioned, they come back with 'she's just being attacked because she's a woman'.

No, she is being attacked because some people don't want to continue the war, and the Patriot Act, and DADT, and obscene subsidies for petro-monopolies and ADM, and the prison-industrial complex, and the erosion of individual rights.

She is being attacked because some people don't like the incessant drum beat linking Obama to every smirking closet racist stereotype imaginable.

She is being attacked because sometimes, a corrupt politician is just a corrupt politican....

If having a woman for president means choosing the worst possible one, what's the point?

MadRabbit -> RE: We are a bunch of Sexists and Misogynists, there can be nothing else for it! (5/27/2008 4:04:44 PM)

All I want to know is...

If she had been elected...

...who would have cooked dinner for Bill?

LadyEllen -> RE: We are a bunch of Sexists and Misogynists, there can be nothing else for it! (5/27/2008 4:09:00 PM)

You beat me to it CL!

I was going to paraphrase Mr Garrison from South Park - "yeah, but at least we got rid of all them damned ______"

Maybe, to unite the party and show that sex is no barrier to winning the Presidency, Obama should emulate Mr Garrison and have SRS prior to the Dems convention? If he gets in quick, he'll just have enough time.

Puella, I tend to agree with your OP.

I for once I agree with you.

Hillary screaming sexist is out of whack.    Nothing sexist has happened.  It is  politics as usual.  Mind you I did agree with her on the vast right wing conspiracy.

I wanted a dream ticket up until this. Now I dont. Winning at all costs solves none
of the countries problems.

BTW- every election is "the most important of our lifetime"  look back thru the history.

I never got a job by being a victem, but by  denoting that I had a service that an employer was willling to paid for.

I mentioned finding new uses for materials. As I made eggs today- the stylrofoam trays.  Those could go bye bye due to high oil.  Hence those pretty baskets will come back. Hence a demand for baskets.  Whom do you think will weave said baskets?

Yup- a growing new occupAtion basket weaving.

I do beleive it is time for porportional balloting. I usually split my ballot- so my allegience isnt to a party- but to the country- the people of this country- not big money.

Hillary blew it- plane and simple.  He handlers wanted bush to fix his mess - so she did not run in 2004.   Now Obama is here.  I think Obama can be a GREAT prez.   But I am not convinced the lawyers will let ANYONE lead us again.  The lawyers lead us- plain and simple.  A lawyer -ie- lobbiest.

I am checking out a 7% increase in natural gas here in my area.  The CEO gets 6.2 mil, it recieves subsidies so therefor gas must be sold at the cheapest possible price. The kicker is this - he sits on the board of diectors on 8 other corps.
5 of which are energy!!!
Figure it out.  7% on $1400 -  [typical cost per year]   $98.

As a lone person- I long concluded that the answer is to drop out.  Let the masses fight over the crumbs.

I wish I could find smarter ways of dropping out.   Right now bounced check snafu on bill payer has racked up fees of over $300-pushing $400. My mortgage now wants caszhier checks.  Even if  schwab fixes their end, they wont pay OTHER NSF fees!!!!!  [I had $2700 in there]

So poof $175. poof too bad so sad.  a fool and his money are soon parted.

Dont use  bill payer from Scwab.
