~fr~ This took me back to my chat days.  Back in the day when yahoo had room names, it was always fun going into the Gor rooms (I am so not Gor).  There was this little "announcement" at the top of the chat room that all submissives needed to ask permission of the "masters" before entering the chat room... umm... hello, I am already IN the room!  Also, a submissive could only have black font (mine was bright pink).  Cannot tell you how much fun we used to have. [8D]

kdsub -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 8:18:50 PM)

I don't spend much time in chat rooms but I believe you can create your own room..may be worth a try.

-=I’ll grab the counter point just for grins=-
Maybe E/everyone wanted to be polite to Y/you and T/they didn’t want to type like this when addressing Y/you because T/this BDSM forum is a protocol rich R/role specific environment?  LOL

You choose to identify your role as a submissive in your profile.  Perhaps in the role specific environment of that BDSM chat room, it wasn’t unreasonable to ask people to follow the same protocols they did when they filled out their profiles?  Listing your name with or w/o a cap so people can identify your chosen BDSM relationship role doesn’t really seem more unreasonable, ridiculous and immature than doing the very same in your profile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nonetheless, sounds like a funny experience in a chat room.  What did they want the switches to do with caps?
I really can't decide if I love protocol or hate it.
I've always loved he idea of being in higly disciplined groups in 'Old Guard" style. But in practice I really just lack disciprine. So oh well!
chellekitty -> RE: Online Protocol (5/27/2008 11:47:52 PM)
people who cap my name, even when writing it - not just typing it, annoy me, but when typing it, i request that they not cap my name...
i thought online protocol was to type names as they are, and if you are in a BDSM chat room, typically, if you want to be identified as a submissive - lower case, if you wanted to be identified as a dominant - upper case...i wonder what vanilla's do.......but anyway...i've never seen anyone force you to change the case of your name to match your profile identified role...thats just weird...
Hehehe - it was funny really.  As for my profile, well yeah big deal I'm a subbie, but not too everyone, just like you are a sadist to a chosen few (or whatever - hell, you could have a veritible harem!!!) but not to everyone.
But who gave the rule that subbies have no caps!!!!!!!!!!!  How silly.  A name is a name.
What's weird is all this goofy high school shit about "online protocol". Get a fucking grip.
Aiden -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 12:15:36 AM)
Well, Ive been to some, mostly male submissive themed chats, and I don't consider it a big problem to conform to lower casing my name if its the custom, its just a way of being respectful of the people who "own" the space.
The moderators do seem to have a pretty free hand when it comes to banning or bouncing those they find offensive.  From what little I've seen, most room mods are reasonably sane and fair but Ive also seen a couple who can be fast to toss anyone who rubs them the wrong way.  IMHO it would be insane to get too worked up about someone taking a swat at you in a chatroom.
MadameMarque -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 12:31:18 AM)
This brings up a couple of points, to me:
In chatrooms that are user created, it's been my impression that those who create the room are moderating it, making up the rules, and choosing who co-moderates.  Since they're personally run, each one is like a private party.  Some hosts are much better, and some parties a lot more fun, than others.
But regarding the chatrooms for sections of this forum, these are not privately created, are they?  Therefore, I would have expected them to be either not moderated or moderated under minimal rules created by collarme staff.  I would expect those rules to be along the lines of, don't reveal another user's personal information in the chatrooms, don't harass other users, this sort of decorum.
I wonder if, as I believe OmegaG was suggesting, it was a coincidence that you got dropped out of the chatroom at about the time some never-had-a-real-scene-in-his/her-life twerp was advising you on how to type your own name.
Jees!
SleepyDom -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 1:14:07 AM)
And if you're a switch, then what?  Hi, Mmy name is Ssleepy...  LOL.
Who came up with these retarded protocols anyway?
I sometimes get the caps wrong when typing because I'm too lazy to go correct it, but to intentionally butcher the English language, heh, too much effort.  In English, God-figures get caps (God and His creatures and Him); is this some sort of sneaky way to make Dom/mes like Gods?  Heh, you may be God as far as your sub is concerned, but to me, for all I know, you're just another twerp.  Now if you're actually God, my apologies, but being an atheist, good luck trying to convince me, hah!
GoddessTeaze -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 1:42:06 AM)
Every roomowner
has thier own rules, and to cap down as a sub
to make it easier to see who is who, and in some rooms subs get an + to make it easier to see the difference or in other rooms the Dom/mes do.
When you visit there, one has to respect thier rules.
Some are more polite then others,
that's so right.
And then there is always the option of
making your own room with your own rules.
There are allot of good folks out there
and it is a good way to get to know people
from all over the globe!
To the Op , feel free to join My room
at any time .
Have a good one.
SleepyDom -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 1:53:31 AM)
I should create a room and have a standing rule that anyone who enters automatically agrees to tribute me $100.
Add:  Wow, I'm finally "indecent."  How did the mods know that I was naked while typing this?  Those guys are good!
I say we all go to SsleepY Ddoms' chat room and cap the last letters instead.
Wasn't a coincidence - there was some sort of message saying I had been taken out of the room or something or rather lol....
Someone said I should respect the rules of others.  Well my point really is there was nothing to state about capitalising my name for goodness sake lol.  Also, does it matter whether I am sub or dom anyway if I'm just there to socialise?
As someone else said, I'm not worked up, just thought I'd bring it up for a laugh really, as I am laughing about it.... thought it a funny point of interest anyway
Quick!  Come to the video chatroom!
(Is that what the $100 is for?)
Who's sneaky about it?  Personally, I'm reviving the Royal "We," This Personage being too grand, expansive, and Divine, for a singular pronoun.
Nah, I wouldn't charge people to see my glorious cock.  That was just to take advantage of GoddessTeaze's loophole that anyone who enters a private chatroom must agree to the rules.
Call me a mavrick or somebody who doesn't follow the crowd, but I've never understood the need for that Y/you-W/we crap either!
Maybe I just can't be bothered to be that finicky.
