Maybe it's how you drink JW that matters. My way was from the bottle under the seat of my cousin's 1965 Olds 442, which can't really be called a 442 because he put three dueces on it, I guess it was a 642.
In the winter, the JW gets very cold under the seat. In the summer don't worry about it, because this car ripped the front bolts right out of the seat on takeoff one day. No shit, but then, my Dad sold him the car. Imagine winding it up, letting out the clutch and finding yourself in the back seat ! It happened. I think Dad regrets selling him that car, first of all it got to the point where his Dad wouldn't bail him out anymore, so my Dad became his personal bail bondsman. Plus it may have been a factor in his death, if it served to feed his need for speed. The motorcycle was his undoing, and it was his fault. My favorite goddam cousin too. Thanks alot.
But in those days nobody cared, if we blacked out we were happy not to be in jail the next morning. Put my cousin's ass in a Pinto and he might still be around. And that brings us back to the point of the OP I think. Alcohol can cause this global amnesia thing, and frequently does. That is why I drink very little whiskey, and don't experiment with drugs.
And believe me, half the time when the doc writes a scrip you are experimenting with drugs. The fact that it is legal means absolutely nothing to me. Booze is legal too, I just choose not to.
Nice save from a hijack eh ? But I do deem myself qualified to comment on the subject because I have experienced blackouts. I have, in the morning, done the walk around the car to see if there were any new dents, or even bodies on it. Back then it seemed a trivial matter but things have changed.
Transient global amnesia is a blackout, plain and simple. On TV (they run at work) I've heard it described "Eating, driving ______ with no memory of the event having occurred", and they advertise the shit on TV ! Fuck, drunk driving should be legal then !

The Columbine shooters were on SSRIs, now they got an anti-smoking drug that causes suicide. Guess that one works huh ? You don't have to be bald anymore but stay away from Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, WHAT ? Why did you want hair in the first place ?
I am going to end this public service message with this : We are only immortal for a limited time. One of the few things I actually fear in life is a blackout, this because I know there could be grave consequences, and I mean the word grave literally. Whatever you may take that causes blackouts, or the fancy term global transient fucking whatever, STOP TAKING IT PERIOD. Whatever it does for you, you might not need it tomorrow. You might not need ANYTHING tomorrow.

Its a 100 proof, $12 burbon that pilots light on fire and slam "because it tastes like fuck". Its more of a hazing thing intended to see who hits the floor how quickly than a drink you savor as a smooth sipping whiskey! God, Term if you consider "that cocksucker motherfucker Jerimiah Weed" smooth what other whiskeys have you sampled???? (Although I have to admit once I get the first two down the rest of the bottle tastes just fine and it sure melts the panties off of LaPorte and Pasadena Girls LOL)
