Status: offline 		In the past few days we have seen a rather rapid expansion of behaviors now to be known as"syndromes". Merriam Webster defines "syndrome" as follows:

syn£drome
Pronunciation:*sin-*dr*m also -dr*m
Function:noun
Etymology:New Latin, from Greek syndrom* combination, syndrome, from syn- + dramein to run — more at DROMEDARY
Date:1541

1 : a group of signs and symptoms that occur together and characterize a particular abnormality or condition
2 : a set of concurrent things (as emotions or actions) that usually form an identifiable pattern.

Now, i suppose the second definition might be applicable to some situations described here, but somehow the quasi-medical terminology seems to confuse and obfuscate what each member has to say; if one disagrees, one asigns the other member to a "syndrome".

i think it lowers us, to be dismissive of one another rather than to be listening and responding.

Just my two cents.

Seeing it here on this message board I find it almost amuzing *shrugs*...... whatever makes them happy.....

Status: offline 		Your statement is correct, LuckyAlbatross, but there are things that might not really need to be understood, connected to, and owned.

it would be very easy to come up with a few things we really don't need to name:

The Subs/Slaves That Don't Shave Everything Syndrome.

The Dominants That Wash Their Own Dishes Syndrome. (My Master does NOT have this one! *lol*)

The Adult Human Beings That Want To Be Treated As Such By Most People Syndrome.

Does someone who does one of these things really need recognition, therapy, or correction for it? Well, maybe the shave things, but that is none of anyone else's business but the Dominant and submissive involved, who may prefer it that way.

If i may presume, i believe the point of the OP, is that calling some behavior a "Syndrome" is a bit alarmist, when in fact, the behavior is not something that needs to be "dealt with" on an individual, or case-by-case, basis.

I used this word twice in ironical references of the first two. I see you have the syndrome syndrome. Or is it the dictionary syndrome ?

I definitely have this one. Could you please tell me how to cure, so that I can happily reply to all the true dommes who offer "keyholding" , and "blackmail", and "financial slavery"services, and to those looking for a "piggy to humiliate" and specifically asking for a "tribute per week" or wanting to "abuse slaves online and embarrass them on her site" or "more submission than a doormat". So far most of the dommes I want to send a note to (in the UK) are the lesbians, simply because they are all looking for human beings instead of cash machines. But I guess that simply means I have the french bastard syndrome (that's what I understood from many replies I had on this board, yesterday). One day I'll probably have the pro-domme customer syndrome, although having fun with someone who is working is really not my kink.

There's a balance. I use the term "morning after syndrome" for the experience of "I was in a fabulous headspace that was really intense and I did things I'd never done before but now I'm awake in the harsh light of day and am totally freaked out!"

I think, like most words, we just need to try and recognize the words we use and apply them properly. As long as we try and stay balanced, in the end little snafus can be dealt with simply enough.
