Image means nothing (says the gorgeous and totally modest ) But in all seriousness, I would rather see a well written and concise profile with no photo than one with hardly any wording and poor lighting in a kitchen that pays little justice to beauty.
But then, I am a photography snob.

Actually, I believe a lot of people come here also just out of curiosity, and many of those that have profiles on here do define themselves as 'bdsm-curious'. The notion that only people that are seriously interested in bdsm visits this site is surely not entirely correct.

But it isn't really about that - at least I don't think so. Over the years, at least for periods, I have sometimes chosen not to present myself with a pic online, or I have posted a 'blurred' one so that I wouldn't be too easily recognized. My reasons for this have mostly been job-related, but there can be several other reasons, like where you live, being well-known within your local community, fronting some type of project or cause - things like that can make people vulnerable to certain types of exposure or gossip. I think it's fairly common to take these things into consideration on any dating site really - and it's not necessarily about the bdsm aspect at all.

I am as out as can be, I make paddles and dildos at work, my parents know I do this, my dad toured the dungeon I owned, etc. However, I live in California and I don't do anything that involves dealing with kids or politics. If I did, I would not be as out as I am.

If I lived in some Midwest or bible belt hellhole, I sure as hell would be more secretive as well.

Even me.. once I went to do a seach for BARBIE. Did you know that Barbie is just not a plastic doll? LOL and you don't even want to visit a site with barbie and her friends.

Something else to consider: some people, men and women alike, hope to have responses based on their argument and not their visual. I've had long stretches where I didn't put up a photo- because I didn't want people who replied to me because of what I look like in a picture. But I'm in remote place this summer- and I'm spending more time on the boards. I really like reading people and matching the words to the face(s). I know- they could be a fastidious librarian, which is a particular erotic touchstone to me, but I have faith that it's not. So I put up a photo too. It's really me, purple ChuckTs and all.

Everyone gets to do what they need to do.

I dont put up a photo because one of the requirements for the license with which I earn my living with is "3.) Be of good moral character. ". Thats pretty freaking vauge and subject to a hell of a lot of interpertation and as a result it will be a cold day in hell when I post my picture on any sexually oriented web site - BDSM or Vanilla. If someone wants to see my picture I will show it to them if they are of interest to me...
