cloudboy -> Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 1:44:18 PM)

Finally, someone has laid out what he MUST DO to win the Dem. primary and general election.

Level -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 1:51:41 PM)

Funny and sadly true, cb, thanks for posting that.

Alumbrado -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 2:03:41 PM)

That was great, loved the 'Muslim'...thanks.

kittinSol -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 2:14:29 PM)

Lapel pins are for faggots and terrorists! On the seat of his pants... the flag of France!

I love sartorial statements like that [8D] . Thanks for the link, cloudboy.

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 2:25:17 PM)

He should hire these guys, and fire whoever thought the beer and bowling would do the trick.

DomAviator -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 4:38:54 PM)

That, and changing his party to Republican, and promising to do away with all environmental laws, and to open EVERYTHING including New York City's Central Park to oil drilling might get him my vote!

NumberSix -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 5:15:20 PM)

I, am a firm believer in enviromental law.  Heres the reason why mexicans are coming to work in america, you cant sell a head of lettuce with lead fringes on it.

I am dead set against drilling anything in the US for oil; by god when the rest of the world has depleted theirs (and I don't give a fuck what they, (or we,) spend..)

Then we will talk about you boys better figure out what you are gonna do about this and give this to us, cause all we got left is a 20-50 year supply.

Think conservatism--- not making politic about who is sucking whom off in the airport bathrooms.

Conservatism is a little larger than that.

Really,

Aviator, you don't really believe that do you?  Seriously man, tell me you don't.  I remember rivers catching on fire in the Rust Belt when I was a kid.  You're about 7 years older than me, so I know you remember it too.  I know you have to remember Love Canal.

I am not an alarmist by any means, but c'mon man.  All the environmental laws?  Surely, you're fucking joking right?

cloudboy -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 5:51:57 PM)

Well, as this thread kind of suggests, maybe the problem isn't the elected --- maybe its the electorate.

(Yes, I know this is a borrowed theme from Caitlyn.)

Well maybe not all... But environmental laws are a major pain in the ass and are the bane of my existence. I actually lived near Love Canal... The thing though is we went from one extreme to the other. I mean I dont know if you were aware of this but environmental liability transfers with real property. Sooooooooooooooo, if a previous owner had an underground fuel oil tank 40 years ago and it leaked you are on the hook for the cleanup EVEN if you didnt even know it was there and bought the house with a 20 year old gas furnace! (This actually happened to a buddy of mine, he wound up with a $78,000 clean up bill for comtaminated soil etc.. for an underground fuel oil tank he didnt even know existed.) When I built my house, and I wont name the town for obvious reasons except to say its on Galveston Bay.... I had to get approval from SEVEN environmental agencies including the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Coast Guard! For a house!!!

Back at my cabin, there was a critter that I shall not name, that I shot and barbecued lest someone see it flying around so that my cabin would become a fucking refuge.... Also at my cabin, I had beavers dam the creek and make it flow so as to bisect my backyard! Its "illegal to disturb" a beaver damn... Whoops the dam broke one night during a thunderstorm... (Fortunately the beavers were already dead... Did you know bug bombs, in an enclosed space like a beaver hut, explode and make a giant fireball? Who would have ever thought!LOL) See my view is the fucking beavers werent paying $6500 a year property tax I was, and they were interfering with my right to quiet enjoyment. If th estate wants to protect its beavers they should get them off my fucking private property....

On a totally serious note - I know for a fact that we have a whole shitload of oil and gas wells in NY and PA capped off - plugged and abandoned because of environmental laws. (Five of them were on my exfather in laws property in Chemung County) You cant afford to run a stripper well when you have to comply with the environmental bullshit the democrats imposed. A huge part of our energy crunch, and a HUGE cost of doing business is environmental bullshit... Even in my business... You know Im theoretically not supposed to throw the shot glass sized test cup full of avgas on the ground before I fly??? Im supposed to test it, then march it off for proper disposal. They THINK we have a waste oil furnace that burns it.... It gets thown on the tarmac and evaporates harmlessly...

Arpig -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 6:46:25 PM)

So you ignore the environmental laws at will....we are so proud of you

You grew up in the city didn't you?  I say that, because I grew up in a rural area.  I was hunting and fishing when I could walk.  You don't ignore laws that protect wildlife.  We have those laws for a reason.  We won't have places to take our children and grandchildren to hunt, fish, camp, and enjoy the outdoors if everyone thinks the way you do.  If you don't want to deal with the hassles of nature, than you shouldn't buy land or reside in places where you have to make those decisions.

I know all about that.  My dad's side of the family are from West Virginia.  I was born there.  There are capped oil wells and rusting old oil rigs all over the state.  It's not really about environmental regulations.  The oil isn't worth going after anymore, there just isn't enough of it to make it worth the effort.  Environmental regulations are part of the reason that costs are too high to retrieve oil there, but it's not the sole reason.  Labor costs, foreign competition, etc are all more important reasons for the loss of the petroleum industry in the mid-Atlantic states.

Yes because the state should keep its environmental bullshit off of my private property! Their beavers arent paying rent, but Im paying property taxes. As long as thats the case their beavers asses belong to me! if they dont like it, move to a state park... [:D]

I hate environmental laws, and frankly they make it cost prohibitive to comply. One of the reasons I moved to what is arguably the least environmentally conscious state in the USA - Texas!!! Here at least I was able to avoid any state bullshit - but I still had the feds up my ass when I built my house...

As for what slaveboy just said - yes the oil industry in the Middle Atlantic is a sorry state of affairs. There is a shitload of producable hydrocarbons down there - but its just not cost effective to get to because many of the things we can do down here in Texas. (nitrogren and explosive fracking, water flood, miscible solvent recovery, etc ) you cannot do up there. Yes labor costs etc bear a factor as roughnecks make less here - but still if they could implement effective secondary and tertiary recovery methods up there a hell of a lot remains in the ground but god forbid we upset the six toed spotted slime salamander... LOL I mean its a money issue too - you know with a 1/8 share if those five wells were pumping my exfather inlaw wouldnt have had to work.... The man owns 1/8 royalty shares in five oil wells and they are sitting there plugged and abandoned.

ooooop!!! I'm callin' bullshit!!!

I own 97+- acres of HEL, (hgihly erodable land) that borders a natural environment lake, 1600' I own in principle.

I have more turkeys, pheasants, deer. skunks, coyote, squirrel, grouse, rabbit, raccoon, skunk and whatnot on my land than you will ever landlord over in your fuckin life.

If a beaver was tearing down my trees or whatnot (this is the state of minnesota now, sky blue waters and all) and you are talking about the toughest DNR in the english speaking world, if a goddam bucktooth furry piece of shit was destroying my property, I would either call the DNR and tell them to remove it before I sued them for damages, (*which I really wouldn't bother doing) but I would plug that cocksucker  and he would lay in the ditch, stinking and bloated with flies and maggots as a warning to his friends, and  wouldn't have to have over a 1 minute conversation with the state about it, if at all.

If the game warden can't get you the sheriff just might, they'll weep and moan over that dead beaver's carcass and they'll call it 'animal cruelty' and lock your ass up on felony charges faster than you can call a lawyer.

Call bullshit all you want and then read this http://telluridewatch.com/pages/full_story?page_label=home&id=73583&widget=push&article-Understanding-the-Importance-of-Beaver-Habitat%20=&instance=home_news_bullets&open=&

Which says "Live trapping and relocation of beavers must be done with the approval of the Colorado Division of Wildlife. The live trapping season is June 1 to Sept. 1. Tippie noted that beaver are very territorial, so relocated animals should not be placed where a beaver population already exists."

as well as crap such as If a beaver is plugging a culvert, Tippie and her staff can manage the problem by installing what they call a “beaver deceiver,” or fence system, that serves as a flow device. Pipe systems installed in a beaver pond, which inventor and Wildlife 2000 member Skip Lisle calls a “Castor Master,” help maintain the water level and prevent flooding. To protect trees, Tippie recommended the use of four-inch by four-inch heavy-gauge welded wire fencing – “never chicken wire!” – placed at least two-and-a-half or three feet high around the trunk of the tree. “And give the tree room to grow, by leaving at least a foot between the wire and the tree.”

If they want me to wrap the trees with wire and maintain their water level and install beaver decievers and all of this shit they can kiss my ass. In the case of my beaver problem, a bug bomb went into their hut which then detonated... (Gee I dont know how, I was just trying to make sure the little darlings didnt have roaches or fleas in their hut... I dont know how it detonated... Static electricity perhaps? Maybe papa beaver was smoking? A pilot light?? [:D][:D][:D]

Im sure if you actually look into it - the answer, even in MN isnt as simple as grab the 22 and pop them, which is what it should be on private land! Hence my original comment on silly environmental laws and why I say fuck them and the tree huggers too... My land, my beavers, my rules...

mnottertail -> RE: Obama's Run for the White House (5/31/2008 8:18:31 PM)

I'm saying, no, they won't. Property law is such that it is not amenable to wanton destruction by outside forces, same reason I can shoot your dog or your cats for running game on my land.

The game warden might give me a hard time, but I would tell him to blow me, won't go anywhere, cause he can't prove any type of miscreance when I show him the gnawed and pointed stump of my capital property.  The sherriff ain't going to involve themselves in a state lawsuit.  They will back me (and have, again and again), and tell the game warden to take a fuckin hike.
