Ok.....One of my pet hates about Hollywood is this obssession with making remakes of great movies and making a complete dog out of it!

Another pet hate is crap sequels to good movies.

So Anybody out there feel the same?

I would like to hear whether anybody else has seen any remakes that were complete dogs compared to the originals.

List the originals and perhaps say why the remake was crap or better in your opinion.

And list those first movies that had crap sequels.

I have a short list to start of Originals I thought were 100 times better than the eventual remake.

#1. Cape Fear. Starring:Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.

Remake: starring:Nick Nolte and Robert De Niro.

Robert Mitchums "Max Cady" the bad guy is a way better portrayal than De Niros patented gangster.

Mitchum has such awesome screen presence, not for him props like prison Tattoo's!

#2. Get Carter. Starring:Michael Caine.

Remake: Starring:Sly Stallone and Mickey Rourke.

Michael Caine is just so believable as a London Hood. Way better movie all round really.

I thought the casting in the remake was a mismatch, Mickey Rourke would have made a much better Carter than sly.

He acted sly off the screen in every scene!

#3. Flight of the Phoenix. Starring:Jimmy Stewart and Richard Attenborough.

Remake: Starring:Dennis Quaid.

Original was just way better. The lead actors were way ahead.

The remake was just too busy.

#4. The Italian Job. Starring:Michael Caine.

Remake: Starring:Mark Wahlberg.

Their both good movies for differing reasons.

The original is far better than the remake in my opinion, but then the only thing they share as far as plot is concerned is the use of Mini's as the get away cars.

Now for Sequels, at the moment I can only think of one that I hate.

Escape from New York. Starring:Kurt Russell.

Sequel:Escape from LA.

Man....I was sooo disappointed when I saw the sequel, its not a patch on the first movie.

The first movie is one of my all time favourite movies!

So anybody else have any bogus remakes or sequels they want to share?

I have studiously avoided seeing the remake myself.

I also hate when they take old tv shows and make them into movies.  Two that come to mind are Starsky & Hutch and Bewitched.

The ONLY good Friday the 13th movie was the 1st one.  The ONLY two good Nightmare on Elm street movies were the 1st and the 5th.  Halloween is up there w/Friday the 13th...the original was the best one.

I don't even jump anymore when Freddy or Jason pop out of someplace to kill someone......it's more like "YAWWWWN", and a trip to the fridge for something to drink.

I usually don't go to the sequel movies......I'll wait for them to come out, rent it, and if I like it, then buy it.  I didnt' even go to the last 2 Star Wars releases in the theatre......did go to Jurassic Park tho.

I'm not up on old movies, so usually, I've never seen the original to be able to judge the remake.  If the remake is interesting, I  may go rent the original......but they are usually disappointing......it was so much more interesting to watch films before the advent of all the special effects and CGI stuff.  People really had to ACT!

I never did understand why they got that stupid blonde bimbo to play Daisy Duke in the movie!

I hear you there!  It makes you wonder what planet those people who cast for movies were from...

Next thing you know, they'll cast Wesley Snipes to play Johnnie Cochran in a movie where Johnnie defends a famous actor for tax evasion!

On a side note, the last Bond movie, Casino Royale, sucked ass because the new guy who plays James Bond is soooooo not Bond material.  He just doesn't play the part...

Batman Begins is superior to all of the old ones, in my most humble of opinions. I was really surprised. I've also always preferred Aliens to Alien, which still seems to be one of the most heated debates amongst film fans.

I agree with MstrObjectmaker's thoughts on Escape From LA... Aside from Steve Buscemi, that film wasn't a patch on the original. Still, any film featuring Snake is bound to be pretty awesome.

The first Brady Bunch Movie was a scream.... (The one with that Shelly whatever as the mom).... there's the scene where Alice comes out all in leather.... lol...

I loved the new Sabrina with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford and Greg Kinnear (pure Harlequin Romance)... The one with Audrey Hepburn made me feel sorry for the poor girl.  Julia Ormond's depiction actually gave the girl a backbone.

Kinda off-subject, since it isn't saying one is better, but I loved both verisons of "The Fog", probably because they didn't attempt to tell exactly the same story.

Edited to add: I also liked both "Mighty Joe Young"s. Probably like the remake a bit more because the idea of moving him for fear of poachers fits my modern morals more than moving him for fame.

The original Planet of the Apes was so much better than the remake.

Now see, i knew i liked you, sunshinemiss.

Did you see Julia Ormond with Sean Connery and Richard Gere in First Knight, too?   Erm, even though it's not a remake.  Not that i know of, anywho.

Bedazzled!

The original, with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, is superb--light-years ahead of the remake. Raquel Welch as Lust was at the height of her sexiness (and she ain't no slouch now, either! LOL)

If you've never seen it, and want a truly witty and funny movie, RENT IT!!!
