oh2oh -> RE: What is Chat For? (6/1/2008 5:45:22 PM)

I use IRC very frequently, and if you don't know what that is, it's basically where a server or servers is set up, and different people connect to the network and can chat on there, and it's popular because of the different clients you can use, etc. Anyway, I primarily use IRC for help I need on computer stuff, because a lot of knowledgeable people hang around on places like Freenode where you can learn a ton about different stuff. Not only that, there are virtually IRC networks for almost everything you can think of...TV shows, movies, etc. so you can choose any one of those, find a popular place with many users, and interact with them there. Many people all over the world chat on IRC, so usually they run 24/7. So sometimes it's helpful to find help in real-time from an actual human being instead of waiting for an e-mail response from tech support, or trying to find the answer to a hard question that a search engine won't understand
