Greetings,
In order of appearance:
1. An aura and assumption of dominance in all aspects of his life.
2. Demonstrated responsibility and integrity in all aspects of his life.
3. Intelligence. Another thread somewhere asked about an s being smarter than a D, for me that would simply be an impossible dynamic.
4. Sexual chemistry. Similar kinks are nice, but i'm an adaptable sort.
5. A sense of humor and the ability to appreciate mine, which can be quite...strange
6. Similar tastes in music (Sounds trivial. Isn't.)

The lack of any of these would be a no-go from the get-go.

Must haves for me to consider include: consistency, patience, follow-through, natural leadership ability and empathy.

we all make mistakes, Dominants/Masters/Owners .. they all fuck up just as much as subs/slaves/property do ... Interesting topic.

The one thing which will always draw my attention to a potential partner is that I feel a charisma from them which feels attractive and compatible to me. If this charisma is small, the attraction is small. If it is great, so is the attraction.

That is the first need. This being present does not mean that the other will be a compatible partner, but it does mean a possibility exists.

Next I need to determine that the person is very intelligent. They need not have education, they need not have experience in the scene, but they need to be bright persons.

During the period of getting to know the potential partner I seek to determine if the person values and posesses honesty and mutual respect. without these it is not possible to develope the deep degree of mutual trust one needs to give or receive a deep surrender to the wishes of the other.

There are likes and dislikes I have as we all do, but most of these are minor and can be worked out or negotiated if the mental and emotional connection is good.

There are mutual limits which need to be communicated, explored and respected mutually. It may end up that one partner has a limit which bars a major neeed of the other from being met. there can still be a wonderful BD/SM relationship in this case, but the partner who lacks a need will need to find that met eventually with others. As long as this is consensual for all, it works.

I am a switch, and I use the term partner here , because the needs I list above which I must have met when I submit to another are the same needs I have with someone who consents to submit to me.

i was going to answer to stella, not to complicate us any further to what we already are... Life is simple.. We either find the right person to be able to submit to, or we simply don't and left alone.. That is the fact i can expect.

A Dom in my life must have:
The ability to kiss damn well,
Enough 'intelligence' to keep me interested,
A slightly off beat sense of humour,
CHEMISTRY with me,
And fabulous aftercare for when he has completely fucked me over ;-)

And the Dom in my life has all this and more.....

there's plenty of things that attract me to a dominant man, but the single most important ingredient he must have in order for me to wish to be with him is time.

There are a couple things not just one that are most a Dom needs to have for me to want to submit to him.

1) Control on his own life
2) 100% honest
3) sense of humor
4) Wants to push my limits, but understands some limits are not meant to be pushed
5) treats me as a equal, but different
6) Friendship

Consistency. There are a million folks with a million strokes of differences, but as long as there is consistency then there is a basis of whether or not the relationship will work, based on (of course) YOUR consistency and compatibility with the person in question.

I must, foremost, have absolute trust that my Dom will protect me from harm.  Secondly, He must be big and broad-shouldered.  I can't respect a skinny little man.  Thirdly, He must respect my hard limits, or be willing to gently ease me past them.

A wonderful sense of humor is a must have.  I met my Dom at a camping event.  Normally i wouldn't have been attracted to him as he is 10 years older and lives 2 states away.  However, we had a great time laughing and carrying on that weekend.  Six month later i packed up and moved to him.

hi Ms Goddess ..waving [:)] i believe there has to be chemistry between the 2 people to make it a really great relationship one has with his mistress [:)] and that gets developed over time ..love a woman in control [:)] there has to be trust and honesty between the 2 people [:)] she has to be playfull with a great mind to keep it fresh and exciting [:)]me and my mistress has done many things together and its never dull or boring and i hope it never gets that way [:)] i love being fisted by her and strapon play [:)] no secret there ehh ?
