Faramir -> Demonizing Condi (10/26/2005 1:16:08 PM)

Holy Crap. USA Today published a doctored photo of Condi Rice recently (they have since taken down the pic, with a disavowal).

Check it out- they gave her Demon Eyes.

Hey, that's no way to treat our next president!

I see no difference...

Peace and Love

Her and Hillary will have one hell of a race

I just hope Rice doesn't throw out the race card when she loses and Hillary doesn't brag about keeping the furniture up in the attic of the oval office waiting for her return.

The problem is? Actually I think she may be one of the better thing's to come out of this administration.

I know and I would'nt personally call it good but I do believe she may be the best thing.

I agree with Gloria and think she is the best (probably smartest), and agree with you too that we are in trouble. [8D] M

this is really something that should give a lot of people pause and thought. very sad.

I think the best thing to come out of this administration is the recognition that the Democrats have to change.

Otherwise, I honestly cannot think of a single good thing to come out of this administration.

Do you seriously think it's going to get to that point? I know they're talking it up, but it's just more sensationalism, because absent of people dying in Iraq, they haven't got anything else to sell right now.

People like David Geffen and the business side of the Democratic party have said on more than one occasion that Hiliary isn't a viable candidate. These are smart dudes.... someone better listen to them.

The other thing to remember, is that it's the women who will get her elected. Based on what I saw from the women on collarme four months ago, when someone else started a thread on Hiliary, she doesn't have a chance in hell.

um...with 2,000 plus american soldiers dying so far, in a war that was to have been done in a few weeks, and now they say the average insurgency takes about 9 years to get to a controllable state, i don't think there will be an issue about people not dying in iraq. and that's just the american soldiers who've died, not those who've been disabled, nor the other many countries' citizens dying. we've got lots of bags to fill yet. get those mwd's.

some smart dudes have made some very unwise decisions lately. maybe it's time to listen to some others as well. just a thought.

the popular vote in the past two elections has been centered in a certain demography of people, of whom women are a part only. of course, that's the popular unmucked with vote. so it doesn't really count, right?

I probably should have clarified myself better. The same demographics you speak of that applied to the last two elections, will not be a factor if Hiliary succeeds in attaining the nomination. Why? Because men, altogether, will be taken out of the equation -- Plain and simple.... A very large majority of them, regardless of what party, will not vote for her.

Faramir -> RE: Demonizing Condi (10/27/2005 7:14:20 AM)

Ranger, I think Hillary Clinton is a viable candidate because I think she has the potential to run on policy, not "We Hate Bush."

If anyone in the party besides Ed Rendell has a chance to run a policy oriented campaign, compromise with the electorate, and win, it's her.

If the Democratic party picks another Kerry - some silly jackeen who thinks that elections are won by platitudes and accusations, then they will get the same result as the last two times.

If on the other hand they pick a substantive leader who can craft policy solutions that creatively meet the needs of the electorate, well then we have a race.

I think she has more than a fair chance - whereas I now nothing about Ms Rice's ability to lead with creative policy solutions.

UtopianRanger -> RE: Demonizing Condi (10/27/2005 6:37:24 PM)

Faramir.....

I think if we were talking about another women, your logic would ring true! But the negative connotations that are associated with Hiliary, are not easily shaken.

I also think that in order to run on policy alone, without a whole lota charisma, that candidate really needs to be able to garner a significant amount of trust from the electorate. In Hiliary's case, outside of certain liberal parts of the Northeast and California, a disproportionate amount of the voting bloc distrusts her. My bet is even more so than Kerry.

Unlike like her husband, Hiliary is very transparent, and when the right wing ideologues start to sink their teeth in, there's no letting go. It's my belief that everything from Vince Foster scandal, to the disastrous national health care system she tried to propose, will be brought back up. Carville, Bagalla and Lanny Davis won't even be able to help her. The other side is too smart and has more money.

There's no doubt that all of these potential candidates have skeletons in the closet, but with Hiliary, the bones are still rattling.

Ranger,
you raise some mighty salient points - I acknowledge all those obstacles. I think they can be overcome, but sure, they are obstacles nonetheless.

It may surprise you, but of the ones you mentioned, her transparency is the one that most disqualifies her in my mind. Great political leaders like Mr. Clinton and Mr. Reagan didn't take things personally, they understood resentment directed at them actually reflected feelings about policy. Deeply flawed political leaders like Mr. Nixon took it personally, and nursed grudges. I see some Nixon in Mrs. Clinton.
