i know this woman takes a lot of criticism and many consider her show very low-brow, but i gotta say, i just love her.  She says things to people who are chronic f**k ups that i'd say myself...if i thought of it, and had the nerve.  She calls a 20 year old with 3 kids by 3 different fathers and no child support an idijit and tells her she better get her act together, and i just love her for stuff like that.

A/anyone else a fan?

I don't like anything in which people are embarrassed publicly. You might argue that this is a kind of a honesty or "tough love" but I think it's just about public spectacle. Judy is the star of a "reality show" that cons people into being on the show so that she can ridicule them. Maybe it would be nice to dig into Judy's private life and make fun of her too. It's no better than Jerry Springer. I mean really, think about it.

You probably watch it, then internally sigh with relief thinking to yourself: "At least my life is better than what these people have for themselves..."

> She calls a 20 year old with 3 kids by 3 different fathers and no child support an idijit and tells her she better get her act together...

Really? What exactly is she supposed to do to remedy that situation in the near future? Have you ever found being called names in public somehow uplifting? How did that help you?

Makes my point exactly, IMHO.

I might feel different if the show allowed for replies or if we had any dirt on Judy. But she gets the final cut anyway.

Thumbs down.

I read her book, Don't Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining.  I had a little bit more respect for her through that but she is pretty much nothing but ratings and does nothing more than attempt to incite the public. She ain't worth a damn, really.

MissMagnolia -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 12:30:45 AM)

Yep, I love her.

rubberpet -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 1:06:02 AM)

Judge Judy is nothing more than a grouchy, sarcastic, old bag who gets to degrade people behind the safety of a judge's robe.  She is a disgrace to the bench, to the court system, and to humanity.  I can't wait for the day someone puts that cow in her place.

Im with SugarMyChurro...how is being spoken down to and being embarrassed on national TV supposed to positively help people with genuine problems?  It makes Judy look like an uncaring, unsympathetic cunt who just uses people to make her pockets fatter.  Her husband isn't any better, either. [:'(]

100%, exactly.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 2:06:09 AM)

I agree. Judge Judy is a disgrace. She  is abusive. Makes arbitrary assumptions about people, their lives and the cases she is "judging". Off with her head I say.

This kind of show can be done well. Was it Judge Wattner or Wappner, something like that. He was courteous, took the time to explain his decisions and the relevant law he was using, say in a bad service case, to reach those decisions.

Rubberpet: please dont use the word cunt, its just past breakfast time here and it turns me on

My apologies, sir...how about ragged-out douchebag instead of cunt? [:D]  I'll try to keep it as unappealing as possible from now on.  LOL

MissMagnolia -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 2:17:31 AM)

I don't know how anyone can give that much of a shit about someone on a TV show. Especially as she's pretty much like a lot of dominants right here on cm, rude, bossy, mean, etc. I reckon there are a whole lot of guys out there who have a hard on watching her do her stuff.

It's a fucking TV show for christs sake. Find something important to get steamed about.

Let's get stuck into Cartman on South Park. Now he IS a little cunt.

Personally I prefer Moderator Eleven - much more finesse.

I'm a bit dizzy after falling off my chair.. amazement at finding I'm in agreement with seeksfemslave.

camille65 -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 2:35:47 AM)

I think 'Judge' Judy is a nasty piece of work who delights in mocking people when they actually need help. She gets off on it and it disgusts me.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 2:59:04 AM)

I think the fact she used to be a family court judge speaks volumes. I don't think, as SugarmyChurry has stated, that people are conned to go on the show, it's a reality show and I believe participants are fully aware of what will transpire, and Judy Sheindlin acts as nothing more than an arbiter based on her former profession as circuit judge. Whether it be the person Seeks mentioned, Wapner, Judge Brown or Judy, the fact remains these reality shows would not exist if it weren't for the public's support. Wapner has criticised Sheindlin for being 'unjudgely' in behaviour, it's rather 'pot calling kettle' behaviour given they aren't actual judges at all during those reality shows and feedign off the notoriety of their former professions, which he is just as guilty of.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 3:26:22 AM)

MsM,: there is an enormous difference between Wapner and Judy.
Judy is emotional and  personally judgemental. Not judicial at all.
Can she have possibly behaved in real courts as she does on her "show"?

Wapner was the exact opposite. Calm considered and never exhibited any personal acrimony. When he presided the "show" ran a long while so he must have done something right.

Judy presides over a gladiatorial game where only she is allowed to wield a weapon.

Stella: not once have I ever judged you. What you claim about the redeeming features of the "theatre" Yes.
You....Never.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 3:41:27 AM)

Unks, I care little about the persons themselves, the fact remains they BOTH hosted a reality tv show which saw them 'preside' over people who, rather (likely b/c they couldn't afford to) than seek recompense through the judiciary, preferred to sign up to a reality show so I see little difference at all simply b/c one revels in their notoriety as a hard-assed haridan, and the other wanted to be seen as the clean-cut 'straight down the line' judge who offered fair play. Are you telling me Wapner never allowed his personal judgements to cloud his celebrity ones? If you are, you're naive.

Edited to add: Neither Wapner's nor Sheindlin's courtrooms were/are actual courtrooms, they are stage sets. The 'cases' are 'presided' over, for sure, by the producers of the show, of that you can be certain. Reality shows have one purpose, entertainment, nothing more. Simply b/c Wapner is 'nicer' than Sheindlin when he interacts with the participants in no way separates him from her, in my opinion.

Usako -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 3:46:32 AM)

I hate her but I watch her. It's entertaining and I don't buy that anyone was "conned" to go on her show. People know full well what she's like, what she's about and what will happen. I doubt anyone who goes on her show has never watched it. Plus, they get paid.

Some of what she says is right, some of it is wrong, a lot if her tooting her own horn...but they keep coming on the show like sheep to the slaughter. So I'm not about to feel sorry for someone who WILLING signs up to be humilated on national TV.

SugarMyChurro -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 5:02:54 AM)

Newsflash: Some people are stupid. Think of how intelligent the average person is, and then realize that about half the population is less intelligent than that. I don't find it much of a stretch to think that many people think they will be "discovered" by appearing on these reality TV shows and become celebrities. Yes, some people are just that dumb. They ignore the potential that they will be made the fool. They may even think they will turn the table on Judy and get a few good zingers in, teach her a lesson or two - of course, any such comments will be neatly edited out. Some people just don't "get it." That still doesn't make it OK to vilify them.

I'm not upset about this topic one bit. But just think about what it says about you that you enjoy this kind of entertainment.

I mean, maybe we should just go straight for the arena: public executions, man against man, many against one, man against beast, etc.

What holds us back from that kind of quality programming?

seeksfemslave -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 5:38:22 AM)

MsM the point about these shows is that they represent real judicial process though in a staged environment.
Judy simply does not represent the way courts should proceed
Wapner did. IMO

From my memory Wapner regularly used to quote statute to justify his decisions. Has Judy ever done that ? She does verbally abuse people.
Why people choose to go on the show is neither here nor there. Save money I guess because both sides got paid.
Is it possible to imagine a man behaving as Judy does ?

MissMorrigan -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 5:52:06 AM)

I understood your point, Unks, did you get mine regarding the part where I noted that it doesn't matter how it is packaged or how seemingly 'authentic' one of those shows is, it is still a reality show and has no legal standing. Sheindlin is a sign of the times in today's society, hence her abrasiveness. There is the male equivalent, Judge Joe Brown. What Sheindlin lacks in terms of ethics and basic decency towards others, Wapner made up for in terms of acting. Regardless of each person's endearing qualities, or lack thereof, they were/are part of the same animal - The companies that get rich on encouraging people to entertain us by airing their dirty laundry in public. Simply b/c Wapner may have had the old fashioned 'niceness' about him, doesn't make him any less culpable.

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 6:46:18 AM)

i love her.....she calls em like she sees em.....and she did act the same way in family court.  that was why they asked her to do tv.....at first she declined, then decided to do it.  she couldnt stand the "actor" bailiff she had because she found having an actor to make it fake, so she called byrd, who had been her bailiff in family court, and brought him with her.

i think the reason theres no dirt on her is because she practices what she preaches....like her or not, i think you have to give her credit for that.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Any Other Judge Judy Fans Here? (6/3/2008 7:03:33 AM)

SOO, there's no doubt that she calls it 'as it is', don't you think she enjoys her chair of superiority though, along with further humiliating the participants of the show who, through their own stupidity have put themselves there, that's true enough, but isn't there a line where someone in authority must surely take responsibility and instead of poking sticks at such people to get them to perform, put them through a programme (not the televised kind) which enabled them to make healthier choices in their lives?

Edited to add: While the US has Jerry Springer, the UK has its rival in the shape of Jeremy Kyle. What is reprehensible is that participants known to have an alcohol-related problem have been given alcohol prior to filming and then 'wound up' to ensure the producers get a good show. It reminds me of a circus freak show.
