I doubt I've ever dazzled anyone with moments of sheer brilliance, I'm happy to lurk and if someone thinks I've said something of merit I become titillated in all the right places [:D]

i can't think of one time you have NOT said something of merit....

*sigh*...ya just blew it....[:(]

See, THAT'S what I get for sticking up for you the "Lumus & Lady" thread! I'm outta here[sm=anger.gif]

MissMorrigan -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 6:38:46 AM)

Aww, P'Hotty, I like my daily dose of fluff, afterall, someone that draws lips around their bellybutton and then pulls it every which way while talking through their navel (makes a change from one's arse) can't be all serious!  The reason I posed the initial question is not to stifle the amount of fluff on the boards, we all love it, let's be honest. On other sites I've been a member of there have been a few posters who used the boards as an extension of their personal lives and to the point a person had to sieve through page after page to get past their posts. In the end either capping was introduced or the posters themselves banned and rather than see a person banned for such, I'd much rather them be restricted to a limit of posts per day.

Puppy4goodHome -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 6:38:53 AM)

this is why this thread area is called polls and other randome stupidity i think

Lady Rain, after reading your reply to me I just realised that...

I need to get my eyes retested! I had no idea that 'hide' button was there... is it new, has it been there all along tormenting me?  If there's a myopic smiley I just could't see it!

Glad you enjoyed the music 'subject beautiful' - I love watching the expressions on the faces of the musicians, the way they just lose themselves in that music, even the conductress.

LadyRainfire -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 6:49:17 AM)

[:)]  As someone who is basically blind without her glasses, I hate to tell you that it's been there. Lumus jokes that he doesn't need a blindfold for me, just take away my glasses. So if there's someone in particular that's been posting too many times or being annoying for you, "Hide" their little icky posts away.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 6:56:30 AM)

I'm blind WITH my glasses on - and they cost £160 originally, reduced from £260. It was only when you pointed me to the buttons underneath the avatar that I also noticed the pm/profile and I've been on this site for years lol

I want my cake and to eat it, so think that in by hiding the author of a profusion of posts I'd miss a gem from them that may resonate, but by limiting their threads it would perhaps make them use their quota more carefully.

in wanting a 'cap' on the number of threads a person can create in a single day? I know, I know, before you say it, horses for courses, I can take it/or leave it. It's just a pain in the arse to see what amounts to as spamming on the boards.

Look into my eyes, MissM...[sm=insane.gif]...feeling hypnotized yet?  [;)]

Seriously...I can see your point when it is something that is inane or seems repetitive or seems too close in subject manner to something that was done recently.  But let's face it, most people view their stance on something...whether it be a problem of theirs or good news they wish to share or something they have recently discovered about themselves through D/s &/or BDSM...as unique and so, while they may find a correlation in a recent thread, they still feel that what they have to say is different.

wandersalone -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 7:42:40 AM)

I admit to getting tired of seeing a millions new threads by a new user asking questions that have been asked a million times before...or even worse, questions that haven't ever been asked becaue they are so inane.  trouble is that I still reply so limiting their threads would help me as well!!!!  Mind you waiting for me to ever start a thread would be like waiting for hell to freeze over so maybe they are using up some of my threads.

MistressK1964 -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 7:53:35 AM)

Yes I think there should be a cap. Note to self......dont start a useless already beaten thread. [:D]

I am feeling dizzy from watching that smiley shake. If I watch it long enough I fear I'm in danger of getting virtigo! It's likely the only time you'd see me putting on a blindfold [;)]

I truly enjoy sharing their news, I'll even share some of my own from time to time. I think there's a tendency when a person joins or takes that first leap into forums to become excitable to the point they want to share every thought that pops into their head, and invariably they do.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 12:18:41 PM)

~FR~

I don't think I'd be in favor of a thread cap per day.  Some days, I just have more ideas/questions than others.  Why should I have to wait to post them just because of some arbitrary thread limit?  That seems silly.  OTOH, I would be in favor of a sticky post FAQ including links to threads on topics such as ProDommes and tribute, the sub/slave debate, collars, etc.  Ideally, this would eliminate the recurring threads on such issues.

However, if the thread is older than say, 180 days, then it should be locked.  It annoys me no end to suddenly find a thread resurrected in which the original post was made in 2005 or 2006.  On other forums I moderate, we don't allow old threads to be reinstated because, too often, trolls use them to stir up controversy.

I'd also put a moratorium on posting links to other threads.  The sticky FAQ should eliminate the need for that.  If it doesn't, I'm perfectly capable of using the Search feature.  If I'm posting the question, clearly I didn't find the information I was looking for in those other threads.

camille65 -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 3:08:57 PM)

Sometimes it bugs me a lot, other times it doesn't phaze me. I think it depends on who the thread starter is, and the sort of threads. I have to admit that there is one person who I consider a compulsive thread starter and they are most definitely on the end of 'bugs me a lot' but that is my issue. (I think)

ResidentSadist -> RE: Thread Capping - Am I being unreasonable... (6/3/2008 3:33:59 PM)

Note to self... why men shouldn’t wash dishes.... oops, wrong thread!

And that is the point!  Some of the most pointless stuff becomes fun for others and often it is informative too.  It doesn’t all have to be lofty esoterically stuff.  This isn’t academia, not that we all haven't posted an essay from time to time.   But we can go spend a 10 minute coffee break fighting in the Last One To Post thread and have everything from needle play techniques to poly philosophy fly by as a sideline.  No cap please.

 Some of the most sincere shit is tossed out in these forums while messing around.  It beats the hell out of posting in the General BDSM Discussion forum where everyone is a "know it all" and yet they can’t even define what a Dom or submissive is because they don’t want to be “boxed in”… God save us all from those limited and careful thread posting forum members like that.

I need to read a “wall of text” from a confused know it all like I need to put more of the wrong dish soap in my dish washer.  No thread cap please, lets continue hang loose and have fun.
