Does anyone have a resource for a steel paddle?  My google-fu is off today, nor did a search of this site help.  I would normally create something like this myself, but I don't have much in the way of metalworking tools, particularly a way to polish it to a smooth, high gleam.  Ideally, this would be about 5/16" to 3/8" inch thick, about 18" long and 3-4 inches wide.  Thanks to any who can help.

That's vicious! ^_^

If you can't find anyone here, it shouldn't be too hard to find a welder who will make one for you for a few bucks. We went to a metal supply place to pick up the steel for my corset, even told them what it was for and they didn't even bat an eye.

"and they didn't even bat an eye" - maybe a lickle bat after you'd left do you think?  [;)]

Lynnxz -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 10:21:22 AM)

Mayyyybe ^_^

I've discovered that the "blue collar" guys are less judgemental in general though, and much more likely to agree to help out with stuff.

Seriously, just go find a metal supply place to get the metal first though... way cheaper that way.

Try aircraft aluminum or titanium. One of the most vicious paddles I've seen was made from some synthetic resin sandwiched between two sheets of aluminum.

the closest thing i've found is a gigantic barbque spatula i got from a restaurant supply place.  the metal spatula part of it is probably 10 inches long and 4 inches wide... there were types with and without holes, it isn't what you described, but it's an idea that's already premade.

Hmmm, mmmm, wow. Now that is one paddle I do not have, and will be watching this thread to read the replies!

Though i don't know exactly where one might be found, i can recommend

http://www.spankingtools.com

They are a very reputable company in the UK (not sure what the postage would be like to where you are) But they do make things like this to order and the quality of their products is excellent and second to none.

Where metal paddles are concerned, your post inspired a smile here.. my Master had such a paddle gifted to Him once upon a time (Unfortunately He has no idea who the maker was) But it is very pretty..

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g48/themetalmiss/Paddle.jpg

Its made from aluminium, 3 1/2" wide on the spanking end, 17" long and 1/4" thick..

And did i mention it makes my bum go ouchie? lol..

DominantJenny -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 12:19:00 PM)

No, but now I want one...Humph.

SteelofUtah -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 12:28:03 PM)

Just found THESE however it would seem the site is now defunct and the product is no longer avaliable but it shows a simple concept maybe you could make one of your own or have someone make one for you.

Then I found THIS but it looks like you have to get detailed to make an order

The web sites I found on these things can be found

http://captivepleasures.com/

and

http://www.tirepaddle.com/

Enjoy

Steel (yeah like the paddle)

Phin -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 1:20:16 PM)

Do you have a way to cut the steel?

if no... stop reading
if yes buy this

http://www.metalsdepot.com/Cart3/viewCart1.phtml?LimAcc=&aident=

Do you have an angle grinder?

if no but do have a drill by this

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=1341

if yes this

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96121

either will do a nice job polishing the metal, the drill set will take alot longer go untill you start getting some sheen to the metal the rub some 3 in 1 oil into the surfaces and go over it again with the brush.

This thread is evil in such a beautiful way ...

You've started my brain churning over with thoughts of paddles and just how many different effects could be achived with the same basic design with a few twists. I need to play around a little and see exactly what I can come up with but right off the top of my head I am thinking solid, holed, curved and hammered just to begin with.

Thank you to the OP for sparking the creative flow .......

wulfgarw -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 3:39:29 PM)

What I was actually hoping to find, or have made, is a metal paddle made from a single piece of flat stock.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/23559241@N07/2548813865/   is a pic of a poplar paddle that I made, and would like a steel one similar to it or if the price is right, a matched pair, one with holes and one without.

azropedntied -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 4:10:10 PM)

Find a machine shop with a plasma cutter , buy the steel , Or T-206 alumim . make pattern , take item down to shop have them cut it out , have them rough grind it too . Then you can  put the holes if you want with a drill and finish sand and polish item . Just know all the holes need to be deburred , the more  complex the curves the longer it shall take to get smooth .
If you can not  find a plasma cutter a steel blade to a scroll or jig saw will also work though you need to  go slow and use cutting oil.

azropedntied -> RE: Steel Paddles (6/3/2008 4:14:45 PM)

I found one smaller in scale but  shaped like a tennis racket , with the words "serve it up " on the item , it had 3 feet on it , which i removed .After sanding smooth one side i left the other  waffle like side alone .Its a perfect size and cost me some time , sand paper ,a lil wear  on my ginder , and 1.00$ at yee Ole Thrift store ,in the kitchen stuff .

You can also find a shop that cuts items out with a water jet machine. Waterjets cut up to 1/4 tool steel easily and can cut out really cool designs and logos.

Something anodized... chrome even... would be totally fucking awesome.
