Hmmmm from the last play session... light paddle to warm her up, heavy flogger, dragon cane, acrilic switch, wooden paddle, back to the heavy flogger, singapore cane and the acrillic switch (ending more sensualy) to bring her down toward the aftercare.

Nope I definatly use both.... with any new girl I normaly start with a flogger as it is the toy I am best at exploring their reactions with from cold before I start learning them properly.

Generalisations are unfair and just guesswork really, but, having said that, I'm Male and yes I -do- prefer the cane to the flogger; for Me the flogger is too soft, not harsh enough. Make of that what You will. :)

i can't say i've really noticed a trend one way or the other, but this makes more sense to me... My wife prefers things like the elephant's trunk, sjambok, etc., that will leave a lot of marks very quickly.

Even the genralisation about upper body strength and stamina don't hold true.... I know quite a number of weedy male Tops and several very powerful Female Top's/Dommes. Makes Me laught that besides Myself, the person My girl is 'delightfully afraid' of is a Female Top (she labels herself as a Top... but thats circumstantial, she is certainly Dominant... My Female twin... Well if she wasn't so short and didn't hit like a Girl [;)] [:D])

I'd say that might be true in the gay and lesbian world.. I like to flog... the men I know tend not to but I don't think I'd say they like to cane...but I also like to cane

as with most generalizations, it probably doesn't hold true most of the time...

women glow (when they flog) and men perspire (when they cane)  [:D]

I wouln't agree with the generalization.  Master flogs and canes (and many other things).  When I am in dom space, I also do both.  I've found I prefer whichever my sub doesn't, but that's just the happy sadist in me  [:D].  In terms of actually preferring the sensation of delivering the blow, I think it has more to do with mood and situation than gender.  (Though I think I cane men more than women, if that makes a difference at all)

I agree with many of the posts here: caning and flogging are two different things.  I enjoy both very much, and would not want to have eliminate any of the impact-play toys from My toybag: not My floggers, canes, paddles, crops, dragon's tongue whips, rubber mallets etc...

Just so you know:  their online selection isn't what is in the store- and what is in the store isn't what they have at booths at Folsum Street Fair.  Although once you are in the store, it's sort of like being in the inventing room of Willy Wonka, you just don't have enough eyes to see everything.  And Folsum is sensory overload cubed.

Maybe it is the parties I have been to, but I have seen more women using canes than men.  They are light, accurate, don't require as much space to wield, ...and oddly enough the women tops I have seen are more into sadism than the men.  Most of the male tops I have watched enjoy flogging, sensual touch, whispering to their target in what seems to be loving tones.
As an observer it is more fun to watch the female tops strike with owie things.  Canes make nice marks.

similar to the toy bag discussion in the Mistress board... I have noticed the complete opposite....

especially with the large amount of Pro Dommes in NYC it is much more common to see a FemDomme holding a cane tube perhaps with a thin paddle stuck in it. something generally light and not bulky.

you are much more likely to see men with a large bag filled with toys and or floggers and such.

is it a double standard thing... perhaps slightly...a 115 lb woman in latex and very high heels will not want to lug around a big bag of toys... unless she has a sub to carry it for her.

personally I see it as more of a style issue. a cane or crop is sleek and effective. stylish and light. where as a flogger while it may be beautiful can be a bit more chaotic... not to say that women can't handle a flogger...I think it is just the choice they make when heading out for the night. when going out to a club do you take the big bohemian bag or the small little clutch.

while I agree with your statement very much, personally when i whisper in someones ear during a scene it may be in a loving tone...but the comments are anything but... hurray for mind fucks!

LOL... I am always quiet and calm.  It is when I say a cuss word that people take notice and generally run.  Good plan.

Sadly most of the casual tops I have played with might say interesting things in casual tones.. but inevidibly they play toward the soft and sensual. 
It is a pity I have such an aversion to letting females touch me.

I love to flog, I love to cane.  Mostly, I love to PADDLE with one of my leather beauties, so where do I fit in here again?

So much depends on the person I am playing with, and what we are doing.  There are folks who HATE the cane, or have to avoid marks, or whatever, so they might never get caned, while others crave scenes with nothing but.

My Domme Friends are a diverse group of People and i am not as close to Some of Them as i am to Others, but i do know Some of Them wield a helluva whip and do it so well They have been teaching the skills involved for many years.  By whip, i mean anything  from a single tail to a cat o nine tails to a bullwhip.
 
i rather doubt that Dommes are any more or less diverse in Their tastes for play than Doms are....but then i don't work in a toy store.
