"The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers", Fearless Frankin, Fat Freddy, Phineas, and, of course, Fat Freddy' cat. Because their adventures were fabulous, yet down to earth so that I could relate to them and because of the fabulous art work. I think the artist (Gilbert Shelton ) may have been imbibing some funny stuff.

Also Mr Natural and, generally, all of R Crumb's work, especially, "Devil Girl". YUM. There was a great documentary called, simply "Crumb", I believe. It's great, if you can find it.

Asterix and Gaston Lagaffe .

Daredevil, cuz ol' hornhead was a normal person who struggled with demons like the rest of us, until Brubaker came along with a hackneyed plot and destroyed the fun in the character for me. (Brubaker also did exactly the same with Captain America but nobody seems to be able to see past "Cap's dead" yet.)

Hellboy seems to be right up there, but as I think about this thread it occurs to me that it's the writing that makes things so good. Spiderman was great as a kid but as has been remarked his angst is wearing, whereas Mignola keeps the right hand of doom on a tight leash all the time.

Y the Last Man is also an excellent read (but most stuff that BKV turns out is excellent) and I've enjoyed a lot of the recent Fantastic Four stuff.

I'd also point you in the direction of Powers, Danger Girl and New Avengers at present but there are two characters head and shoulders above all else.

One of those is of course the late Steve Gerber's eponymous creation: Howard the Duck, and the other, naturally enough is

Flaming Carrot

Back when I was running Diversified Services, one of the porn comics I offered was a pair called Dee's Diaries 1 and 2.  Damn they were hot.  Maybe it was the lovely young lady often wore glasses; a turn on for me.  Unfortunately, they went out of print, but I still remember them fondly.  One of the best lines was "You can't put it there.  It won't fit. Ahh. AHH OUCH MY GOD hmmmm ahhhhhh what do you know"

Katina Choovinsky, from "Strangers in Paradise" (Terry Moore).

I'm amazed. [8|] That was a superb story.

Sandman, Cerebus, Eightball, Bone, The Biologic Show, aren't "heroes", but are well done series that will always have a place in my heart.

Brilliant artist, and yes, a terrific documentary, CJ. What a unique family lol.

I agree, Level. A unique family, to say the least.

I miss those old comic books and admire the artists who made so little money and gave us so much pleasure.

First, I must confess that almost all the comic book or manga characters I know, I know from their movie incarnations.

Some who are special to me:

The Crow's Eric Draven and Shelly

Death Note, the character "L"

Lone Wolf and Cub, Ogami Itto

If you watch them, you may know why they're special.

Any other fans of these?

Exactamundo, E. It's always nice to meet another FFFB aficionado.
I dunno what happened to my comic book collection of that era. Of course, much of that era is a blank...I'm pretty sure I had a collection, though...[image]http://www.collarchat.com/upfiles/smiley/hewah.gif[/image]... no, wait, maybe it was my roomie's collection...aaahhh, I better twist a fatty and try and 'member...now where did I hide that shit ?

Hellboy.  Fathom.  Death of the Endless.  The rest are series books, and it's the book rather than individual characters that stand out.

Hot Stuff, the Little Devil!  He was in the Archie & Richie Rich era, too.  My grandma used to buy them for me up at the little corner store for 12 cents.

They had ads in the back where you could sell flower & vegetable seeds door-to-door and pick out fabulous and exciting prizes.  [:)]

I was spending 50 cents an issue I think.  I wonder how long Archie has actually been around?
Yeah, those prizes were great weren't they?  I doubt any of them worked when you actually got them in the mail.

Rorscharch from Watchmen....possibly the most dysfunctional yet driven superhero ever......awesome graphic novel for those who haven't come across it.

I am also fan of Hanzo The Razor and all his detective work using his cock to torture people.
