Status: offline 		Hello everyone and thanks for reading. I just wanted to ask what you guys think of this paradox.

For some time now, I haven't put a photo of my "face" on my profile, yet I send it pretty much when requested. However, without a photo of my face, I've noticed that I get many less replies or responses. Are people just too lazy to be bothered with talking to another male who hides their face?

At one point in the past, I used to have a photo of my face, and I got a lot of spam.

A bit about me, I've fairly young, and a alpha male in public. In private, however, I'm a switch, enjoying the benefits and pleasures of both serving and receiving. But given my very visible job/school and other social restraints, I have been reluctant to put a photo up.

So the question would be: to put or not to put a photo up?

Status: offline 		If you are worried, don't put one up.  However, a friend of mine has a neat trap in her photos. She photoshops the pictures, cutting her head off and pasting in back on a pixel or two out of alignment.  This way if someone tries to embarrass her, she can show that he "obviously" pasted her face on another person's picture.

Status: offline 		While the term "too lazy" has a negative context to it, there's probably some truth to it.  Where you're willing to show your face to anyone who asks for it, that means the other party has to take the time to ask. 

We talk a lot around here about how many things come sailing into the mailbox.  Someone who readily has the picture available is more likely to get the immediate attention.

Status: offline 		In some ways this site is like a shopping site , if your looking for a partner the other side does like to view the goods so to speak .I have had  some "very few" who ask for a face revealing photo and i do not mind providing that when a dialog is moving forward .You also have to think if your not showing your face for the reason that people that your going to school with or working with  or social relations may come across it , think why are they on here ?why are they looking for you on here ?perhaps you have common ground with these people .In the end its your call if you wish to show your mug or not , be that numbered face in the site to be searched .Sure many more will look at the picture , there are also some who do just visual picture searches , i personally place higher meaning in the person as a whole .

Status: offline 		I think your 'nature' shot is quite lovely.  It speaks volumes about you as a human being, which I prefer to just body parts.  Having said that, I normally don't go cruising for subs... I have to many trying to get my attention to go surfing for one.  If you want mail, try SENDING some!

I agree. I think attaching a photo to the introductory email would be a better approach.

For photos that are comprimising, this approach can be a clever solution. I expect the background would also have to be slightly altered. For a face photo, I am not sure how effective this approach will be. A face photo will become relevant when one is directed to the profile--sending someone a face photo alone is not as meaningful. For some profiles, it might work to say that that is a fake profile, for some such a claim would not fly as well. In my opinion, rather than rely on it's-a-fake-profile plan, one should not post a face photo on the profile until one is not concerned about such a scenario.

Status: offline 		I like the picture you have as your avatar, OP, it says a lot about you, which is the point of a picture isn't it?

I do insist on seeing a pic of a person's face before I will meet them, but that is easily attached to an email.  Why the pic?  It's mom's "mean eyes" hint.  A person's expression in a natural pic is very revealing.

For me no. 1: I distrust photos of others and 2.: I want to know about the person which hasn't gotten much to do with a photograph. In the past I have tried posting that I am only interested in a man or woman of character and integrity, but they still responded by sending me a photo of themselves instead of telling me about their values or character. When I don't post a photo of myself, then they assume I am either married or butt ugly.

Status: offline 		Yeah, I love hiking and I love nature. I have pretty bad knees, so running about a quarter mile is the maximum I can do. Thus I rely on a bike or hiking since I can take my time and still enjoy fresh air.

I really appreciate all the comments that have been made. I think I will keep my photo to myself, and continue to do as I have always done... just send it when I feel comfortable and when the trust is established. Thank you all! ^_^
