littlesarbonn -> I just read your profile and had to write (6/7/2008 11:43:47 PM)

I've been getting this sort of initial contact lately that's really been causing me to wonder if there's something weird going on. My profile is pretty upfront that I'm a submissive. I don't play around with pretending to be anything but that, and most people who know me from whatever boards know I'm a submissive. But for some reason, I get these emails that are usually short (one or two lines) that state something along the lines of:: "I just read your profile and I had to write you because I'd really like to get to know you." The email then goes on to explain that she's a submissive and is attracted to me because of my dominance.

Now, I know all sorts of jokes can be made of this, and I'm sure there are thoese that are only capable of doing just that, but is this some kind of random thing people do when they're trying to stir up contacts with people? I rarely respond to these, as I just don't have the time, but I wonder if this is the kind of stuff that if I continued the conversation it would eventually result in someone asking me for money, or something like that.

I get these types of messages too.  Some people join and immediately make up a form letter to spam everyone.  [&:]

Well, from my own experience, I'm generally fairly upfront about why I'm writing. Usually, it's because I read their profile and in some way, it has intrigued me. Then again, I don't make the mistake of saying someone is Dominant when their profile clearly states that they are submissive. I personally focus on the profile that "speaks" to me the most. Usually, I get a response thanking me for reading their profile, and not much more. But often times my message is just deleted. No harm done, since I'm just giving out compliments where I see fit. If they read it and feel uncompelled to write me, oh well.

But, getting back to your question, if there is something that doesn't "feel" right, then it probably isn't. Also, my usual rule of thumb... if someone uses the word phrase "dot com" in a way to offer their messenger, is deleted immediately. Anyway, those are my two cents... [:D]

Maybe what they really meant was your profile rules!

Sorry, I had to put a jokey comment in, you were expecting some, I couldn't be the first to let you down. Honestly, I think it's spam/form letters like Vendaval mentioned.

Yes, the 'oh, I loved your profile' trend.  There's few tactics that get a full blast from Me after people tell Me they've read My profile, and then continue on about how they can relocate.

slaveintraning -> RE: I just read your profile and had to write (6/8/2008 6:29:33 AM)

I have done that, and find that I don't get a replay back. I have found some profiles are very good, or just different from others, and justs say so. Not trying to say I want to be their slave, just saying I like what I read. Sometimes I get a strong feeling from a profile, and will write, but know that still might not get a replay.

I think it is random, I get the same sort of emails. From women, sub men and doms wanting 'me'.
They don't want me, they simply want someone.

If the next line in the email is

"Please write me at <email-address>"

then it is an online scammer tactic called "email harvesting."  The junior person is assigned to send out lots of emails on-site emails, often to several sites.  A percentage of the recipients write to the address.  The more experienced handler then deals with the personal contact of the marks who wrote to the address.

pixelslave -> RE: I just read your profile and had to write (6/8/2008 6:37:10 AM)

I've received them as the opening line of form letters, usually from women who claimed to be from the states but were temporarily living out of the country in places like Nigeria. [;)]

I presume they were the precursor to the next one that would have asked for money to bring them to the states or care for their ailing mother. [sm=pigsfly.gif]

I have actually received many, many of those sorts of emails from girls, from real people, people who are out here today (under my old profile mnottertail, part of the reason I am desperately trying to give it up) they only seemed to want to be pen pals with a witty sort of motherfucker, and I have enough friends...

I get these types of letters quiet often although the last one I got like this made me sit back and laugh because I was in the middle of rewriting my profile and all it said was "Currently underconstruction."

Blessed be,
Nika
