The way I see it, he was wrong. Regardless of whether it bothered him to show up with a white woman on his arm or not, this was a charity and he was more conerned with his own image and your "safety" than he was the reason for the cause. You werent invited to the Gangland Bash after all, this wasnt a street kids hazing, it was a Womens Assoc Banquet. You are better off without him if he is the one who gets that petty and then blames you for it. My humble opinion. DV

Hotty, I wouldn't waste another minute's thought on the jerk.....his thought process about you being the only white woman present, (BTW, how does he know? He have a personal copy of the guest list w/photos??!!), and worrying about your "safety" is as asinine as the "wariness" he showed about going to an African American event when he is! Go without him, have a great time.....don't give him another thought...he ain't worth it! IMHO, anyway.

My 2 cents: single incidents like this, ugly though they are, don't tend to break a relationship. But they can be a concrete example of behaviors that you already knew weren't working. So it's probably time to walk. As for your particular issue, I would say that you were very much looking forward to the dinner and he pretty much set you up to suck all the joy out of it. And yes, that implies he was way too wrapped in his own shit. So don't feel remorse. You are a bright, insightful woman who by now knows herself and her reactions. If you think it is time to move on, then trust yourself.
