does anyone know where i can get a fireman's hat? my grandfather is dying, and we're hoping we might be able to source a hat/helmet to give to my mother or her sister at the funeral.

You might try contacting the fire company he was a member of, the shield of the fire company would be on it that way.

Very true.  Local FD's are always willing to give away memorabilia, though a fire helmet give away would be a condemned one, not a newbie or one that's still operable.  Good luck!

Go to his old department.  I've still got mine when I was a firefighter.  They will give you one...just because....

he's the energiser bunny. his breathing gets labored, his kidneys start shutting down, his temperature raises. then 4 hours later he's calmer and resting easy. nobody expected him to make it past his 92nd birthday. 4 weeks later..... he's still here, lol

i told mom to get a bunny and batteries and put them on his casket when he goes [:D]

I am so sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing.. it sounds to me like you were prepared for this though (at least as much as one can be prepared for this sort of thing)..I went through something similar with my mother 17 years ago... If you need to talk, please, please let me know...
