Ok, so, social newbie here, first of all...

I've just recently turned 21, and been able to gain access to local and nationwide BDSM events. I checked the Thunder in the Mountains site for 2006, and registration was going on in MAY for 2006? Is this 'normal'? Do I really need to register a year in advance for this?

I understand that this is a huge event, but gracious, I have to say I was quite shocked.

Thanks,

Mary

*shrug* It's a big event, I've heard nothing but huge praise over it.

When's the deadline to register? That's when you NEED to register by. Perhaps the organizers want to get an idea on how into it people are, or need a certain number of registrations to cover expenses by a certain date.

I'd suggest sending an email to the organizers through the website itself to ask if there's limited space or hotel room. I've never been able to get to this one but I certainly want to.

Events can fill up fast. This is particularly true if organizers have arranged for a block of rooms to assure privacy in the halls for participants.

Most people will register around 3-4 months in advance. I didn't know Rich had put up any info for 2006 already, i am going to go check out the sight. Now if one wants to attend Thunder as a volunteer (free admission, you only pay for your room) i would recommend doing so as early as possible as the volunteer spots fill up quickly. Depnding on the hotel location for 2006...you also might want to reserve rooms as early as possible. I am going to visit the site and see what i can find out....if after doing so i have more info for you i will let you know. Hope to see you there in 2006.

Peace,
cathy

As other's have stated already. It is normal. Planning goes on for a long time prior to an event. Thunder in the Mountains is right there along the lines of a Black Rose event. I've been there once....I'd definately suggest going.

Hopefully Black Rose can get their's back together for 2006 as well.

WOO HOO, great news. Glad i checked out the website. Looks like they will be increasing the play space available. That was one of the things about Thunder 2005 that i did not like....it was very crowded. They have also addressed the only other issue i had with Thunder 2005 and next year there will only be Thunder attendees in the hotel on Fri and Sat night. Thanks Rich for listening.
The additional play space for 2006 will be the first floor of the parking garage...i know where i can be found.

Local buzz is that contracts are being signed.

After LR this year I swore off volunteering for any large event that was a vacation for me. I appreciate the volunteers and I work at most of the local events I go to, but when I take the time and moeny for a break, well, volunteers work their asses off!

This event is being held almost in my back yard. Anyone interested in meeting me & mine please email. July is a wonderful time of year with LOTS to do if you choose to make this a longer trip. Skiing is still going on in some places in July too. Look forward to meeting you all there.
