Status: offline 		OK- now that I have your attention.

Those salespeople at those kiosks that want to buff my nails, put curly extensions in my hair and clean my jewelry are really driving me crazy!! They just won't take "NO" or even "NO! GODAMMIT!" for an answer. Gheez I was at a local mall yesterday and was pestered by FOUR different sales people as I walked the aisle from store to store. A few weeks ago I was at another mall to get my hair done and one nail buffer just wouldn't NOT leave me alone even though I told him repeatedly that I was on my way to an appointment.

I never stop. NEVER! The last time I stopped for a nail buffer (yes, the same exact nail buffer you can get at Walmart for $1.50)  he kept me there for 30 minutes! I was with my Mom and daughter and they wandered off and left me to my fate. (traitors) So when I finally escaped his clutches ( I was thinking I might have to dail 911) I was able to find my daughter, but my Mom, in a daze of nicotine withdrawl, had wandered outside to smoke. We never found her. I think she wandered home a couple weeks later. She was a mess (but her nails were shiny!)

OK- I'm rambling now. But honestly, anyone else just really sick and tired of this trend?  There are so many of these demo type kiosks these days and the sales people are SO aggressive. It's really irritating and just kind of spoils the fun of going to the mall.

Status: offline 		The ones who really piss me off are the ones armed with perfume spritzers, a loaded weapon if ever i've seen one. I'm waiting for the day they spray someone who's allergic to perfume and drops on the spot.  You aren't alone, we must unite and start an uprising, written or otherwise.
 
BTW, i hope you found your mother.

Status: offline 		The only time I've been 'suckd in' was some chick trying to sell me some seasalt soap or something. I figured, hey I get to wash my hands and then be done with it. Afterward, upon hearing the price (and not being in the mall for soap to begin with, I said "No, maybe my sister or mom might want some, but they aren't here. See ya."

Status: offline 		Never ever an issue with people accosting me just about anywhere, having a glare that can peel paint off of a battleship at fifty yards is probably part of that.

Status: offline 		I hate the girls with the perfume. Seriously... at what point is it a good idea to spritz people in the eye with that crap?

On the other hand, when I was 15, I took a job in the food court. I was one of the people that insists on shoving crappy bourbon chicken at everyone who walks by. I even picked up the little accent the other employees used and everything.
"YOU TRY SAMPLE! TRY SAMPLE BOURBON CHICKEN PREEZE!"

Status: offline 		I hate the trend.  I also hate that when you do go into a store to buy something, whatever you are buying is not good enough, they are trying to badger you into buying more, more, more, and some of them just don't like to take "no" for an answer.

(Saying, "no, please, not that" has its place, but not in the mall......)

I'm doing more and more shopping on line just to avoid pushy salespeople and having to have the "Hi, how are you today, can I start a fitting room, let me tell me about our sales," as if I can't read the signs all around me.  I walked out of a Macy's one day when the saleswoman popped up behind me three times in five minutes, "I'm still here if you need something...."

Well, I'm not.  See ya.  Grrrrrrrrr.

Or, when the jewelry cleaning people try and get me, I hold up my bare hands and ask them which ring theyd like to clean for me.

My mom, on the other hand, used to specifcally go to the mall before a big family event and wear her god wedding ring knowing the jewelry cleaner people and the nail buffer people and all else would find her. She had her nails all buffed and her good ring cleaned right befor ethe family affair and paid nothing for it.

Status: offline 		The only people that bug me when im at a mall are the cell phone salesguys, and only if there is someone that looks "softer" than I usually do when im going shopping... a glare is usually enough to send them scurrying away :)

Status: offline 		The mall used to be one of my favorite places to go, but no more.  Yes, the kiosks and their salespeople are annoying -- but they're also in the f**king way.  Since the momzillas with their $800 strollers can't decide if we're gonna go clockwise or not, just getting from one part of the mall to the next is a 'weaving and bobbing' routinue now.
 
The mall has become the human equivalent of the parking lot at Walmart's, with E/everyone going any which way and N/no O/one yielding the right of way. 
 
When the f**k did E/everyone decide there'd be no more 'common courtesy'?

I love the look.  I give them half a look with a no thanks on the stroll up the one side of the mall.  They get the full look on the stroll back.  Never even have to say a word on that round.  It's very effective.  Everyone should have the look.

Status: offline 		i had to make a fuss with store management about one of the perfume gals. i told her (nicely) no i didn't want to a spritz of the latest whatever celeb perfume on me ...i had bad allergies that day and didn't want to the smell to trigger an allergic reaction. well, she did and i started sneezing. the manager apologized while the spritzer gal got yelled at.

i hate walking through the mall - those at the mobile phone or Bally's kiosk are the worse! you can tell them no until your face turns blue and they will still won't accpt it. that's why i plug my ears into my iPod with the volume loud to ignore them.

Status: offline 		At least in your avatar picture, you have an exotic enough look that i bet you could make up a completely nonsensical "foreign language", jabber a few sounds at them with an annoyed head shake, and keep on moving  Bonus points if you throw in some tongue clicks.

i flat-out ignore people. My hearing isn't all that great, so i probably do it more often than i realize, but i usually identify potential harassers well before i'm in range. When they attempt to get my attention i don't even glance in their direction. They move on. If you make eye contact, you're generally screwed.

Status: offline 		the last time i was at the mall, (i only go kicking and screaming because one of my favorite stores is there), my son was with me.  he's a big, friendly galute who will say hello to anyone.  i warned him not to make eye contact with the kiosk salespeople or it'd be over with.  of course he said hello and acted interested to a guy selling cell phone plans.  i walked off, did my shopping and then approached them both and informed the salesman he was talking to a minor with no job and his attentions would be better spent elsewhere.  we went to one more store adn on the way back the same salesman approached, apparently not remembering us....annoying as hell, and yes,  "the evil mom look of doom", as my son has named it, did have to come out.

Status: offline 		I call those ladies with the perfume PAPs: Perfume Assault Personnel. And I know a girl who does that for a living, make 16 dollars an hour to be a "perfume model". They only call them models so the managers don't get in trouble for monitoring their appearance, like the waitresses in Ocean's 13.

Status: offline 		I have this gift, well maybe it's not a true gift like a super power but....I have the ability to totally tune those people out as if they aren't there.  Even better if I am stopped and window browsing near by, and they keep getting louder.."Excuse me sir, sir, excuse me..SIR SIR, EXCUSE ME" to the point they realize the whole mall is staring at them as if they were talking to a vision or ghost.  I guess attending a gazillion sporting events every year has helped me with that, with the scalpers who always lurk near stadiums, I walk right on by them as if they didn't exist.  Don't make eye contact with them, don't say anything, they rely on your politeness and not wanting to be rude in general. Treat them as if they don't exist.  Don't even give them a "no thanks I'm not interested".
