I plan to see a slave soon and in this security-conscious airport environment, I would like tips on packing -- bondage ropes and toys. Thoughts? safe or not? what your recent experience?

Anything you can't stand to lose/have damaged, I would seriously suggest mailing via UPS or FedEx.

I traveled a lot doing lectures and demos. My advice is to put nothing in your carryons and either ship the delicate stuff or take a deep breath and put it in checked baggage.

Shipping is what I think I'll need to do, and so the follow on question is -- in your experience, are hotels generally reliable in accepting boxes that have been shipped to a hotel guest (that would be me)? Any precautions?

I would want to throw some ropes in a checked bag but I am not sure if that is wise. Of course I guess I could substitute a bunch of men's ties and belts but I really do prefer rope as restraints.

PS How do I change that "vanilla" icon next to me name? That annoys me.

as far as i know, the vanilla icon represents the number of message board posts you put up. the more you post, the more it will change (but only with large numbers)... i am not sure if you can rid of it for good or not though... good luck.

Don't worry about the rope. It's not the "shock" factor that makes stuff disappear; it's how easily it can be resold. With carryon, they are worried about things you could use to take over the plane. Remember the 9/11 guys had boxcutters not MP5s. Rope there could be used to immobilize cabin crew. In the carry on stuff the official worry is stuff that could blow up (for example when I travel to do my mindfuck demo I take the blowtorch head but not the propane bottle. I also have enough knives to cause a check-on checker to pass out but those are in the hold and not available so no one sweats them) However, the searchers aren't stupid. They have a good chance of recognizing a vintage Heartwood flogger (est $500) It ain't official but it happens.

Master Lark,
I ship ahead for business all the time FedEx Ground or UPS is not too expensive. Only the US postal service "lost" a box, coincidently having the most valuable items shipped. Be sure to insure and keep your shipment tracking number. It's best to plan on having your stuff arrive a day or two before you. The major hotel chains are very reliable and will store your stuff in the luggage room. Just to be sure, call the hotel and see if they will accept your shipment and have a storage facility. You can also arrange for pick up and shipment home from the same shipping company. Around here they have shipment stores that will arrange everything for you. Again, it depends on the hotel, but they usually have someone who will take care of that for you too.

Good Luck!

Good advice from JohnWarren and Mercnbeth. Thank you all. I am checking my bag and throwing in the nipple clamps.

We recently went from Tucson to Logan Air in Boston. We checked cuffs, collars, floggers, and rope.. vibrators too.. nothing was taken, but the bags were opened and searched. They put a sticker on your luggage tag when they search your bag.. Locking your bags will cause them to cut and ruin the locks..so I advise leaving the padlocks off. That also makes them more suspcious.

If we did it again.. we'd ship ahead.. for sure. saves alot of worries..

This reminds me of the suggestion that you put items inside ziplock bags when traveling. They can look but aren't touching. Sorry but the idea of a strangers hand on my vibe or other personals is WAAAYYYY too gross for me.

Yes definitely use baggies so nothing is handled.. but still.. they can open those... and how would you know? unless you put some tape on the tops...

I was sure to wash all my stuff with a cleaner appropriate ...before I used any !!!

Good advice, don't pack anything in your carry on.

I recently returned from a trip where I was passed on to "Secondary" when I cleared customs in Canada (the front line agent was increduluos that I could spend 2 whole days in the USA and not purchase anything!)
As I approached the desk I set my "passive expression", was polite and engaging. Quickly running through lines I could use when she came across the flogger I packed (thanking God I didn't bring the whole toy bag!).
The agent excused herself to get some gloves. I offered to open my bags for her, lifting out a neatly folded pants and shirt (and flogger) to move them out of the way for her.

So, moral to this story, even in checked baggage you might be in for a few uncomfortable moments!

i've traveled recently a few times with restraints, blindfold, connectors, and "toys" in my carry on and had not a problem whatsoever. they take more time looking at my laptop. i have even brought my tens, which i thought might raise a look or two due to the wires, but again, no problem. both in the state and across the country (washington, dc).

Imagine my suprise and evil laghter w3hen I opened it and founf a piece of paper saying it had been inspected for my safety! LOL I couldn't help but think...What about the safety of slave!?!?!?

When I travel, I bring toys that have "dual usage" factors. For instance, I use two-dog chain couplers as handcuffs or wrist restraints., In My luggage, they become handles or tag-holders. Ropes are used to tie clothing in bundles (I roll My clothing when I pack). A straignt paddle becomes a stiffener in the back of acloth bag (it doesn't look like a paddle but rather a length of metal) Hairbrushes become paddles. The cynendrical handle of My breakdown whip becomes part of the frame of My suitcase or slips into the handle part, the tails of the same whip detach and are used to tie clothing bundles. Nipple clamps hold papers together and collars become baggage straps. Leashes become carry-on shoulderbag straps. With practise and modification, one can bring an entire dungeon and it looks like nothing more than suitcases and clothes. Oh, and one of My favourite long-tail floggers looks exactly like a Sixties style hippie belt when it's braided and the ends slid into a buckle I have made for it.

I remember walking through O'Hare wearing two nipple clamps as earrings! LOL! It's amazing what you can do with time and imagination.

I managed to ship my toys through checked baggage.Never put in your carry-on bag.
Now checked bagage is a risk but Homeland security is not interested in your ball gag and riding crop. The only want to know if they explode. Now this maybe imbarrassing, they have seen worst and its the worst that they are interested in.

Handcuffs are a restrcted caryon item for air travel these days. I reccomend not carrying on much and place it all in a checked bag or two. It also saves the imbarasment of looking someone in the eye while they check it in fornt of everyone.

I also reccomend to remove all batteries from their devices and place them in a seprate ziplock. It is also reccomended to place all lubes, oild, etc in a ziplock due to pressure changes causing some bottles and tubes to occassionally leak.
