It's a fine line that women have to tread in the corporate world. I've heard negative comments directed at women who dress too conservative, who wear flat shoes and conservative dark suits with slacks. The same men who call the woman in the pencil skirt a slut are calling the woman in flats a dyke. I've decided that what it boils down to in that the old boy club is still alive and well and that with some men a woman just won't be able to win with image. My approach is to see the two extremes in what ever office I am in and fall somewhere between the two. I'm sure the good ol' boys still find something to talk about, until they have to call me to make their computer work after the new upgrades. ETA: I also think that though a woman puts alot of thought into what she wears in the office, it should not define her, it should be subtle enough so that she just is, not oh, my goodness, what is Kathy wearing today (I work with 2 fashionistas and there is more talk generated by their clothing then by their output)
