Just back from Southeast Leatherfest and we presented two topics this year.

Deep Impact (Punching, Kicking, body stikes with large and or heavy items, Included dangerous places to strike including Kidneys Liver Heart. Locations of these blows to make sure you can avoid them. Psycological impacts of deep impact play (Both top and bottom perspectives discussed). Considerations of various safety equipment some folks might like to consider. (mouth guards, gloves, padding for the furniture in places many places don’t have it etc)

And

S&M More than Meets the Skin- Useing S&M to assist in achieving your personal SM and relationship goals. Included discussions about Building trust through SM, Finding your real limits vs your percieved limits, Cathartic and Catalytic scenes (Scenes that clear the daily fog and allow you to gain clearer self perspectives)
Ordeals and initiations forging your identity with the heat and preasure of pain. Ideas and images of sacrifice and worship, Humiliation as a technique for working towards a freash start, and Sugestibility of trance states induced through pain play potentials for post scene help in changing things in your life. (NLP using SM to induce the trance state)

Classes I'd like to see most of the subjects I give classes on I'll attend anything that runs along the similar vein, because I tend to be one of those people who when they want a class for more than a year or so and nobody is giving one that I canreach, I start researching with a mind to give a class on it whenever I can gather enough information to fill and hour and a half (standard class length at most of the events I have attended).

Do you have a source of info for that that I could get a hold of? :)

A text I found very useful is "TrailGuide to the body" by Andrew Biel.
Its over the whole body and is geared for those in massage/physical therapy training.
There is also a companion video as well that could be useful as well. Though I only hear well of it, I have not viewed it myself.

Amazon carries the series.  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-9841899-4189413?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Trail+Guide+to+the+Body

Hope this helps.

Aloha Archer,

Interesting you mention NLP...a few weeks ago i talked at length with Richard Hawk about the use of it in sm, because both he and i have been studying it for years now.

Richard teaches some surface techniques, he uses them in negotiating, and in his interigation scenes, and we talked about how dangerous it can be in the wrong hands ect....i was wondering if you would not mind telling me what/if you were seeing NLP being used for beyond trancing? What sort of clearer self perpectives are you referering to?

To my knowledge he is the only one teaching a class on NLP techniques in the scene are you aware of any others?

Also i am curious as to what your definition of catalytic and cathartic are, if you dont mind sharing what the differnce is from your perspective. :)

Certainly,

NLP would be  part of it that I just touched on, I conslted with Susan Abdinor (Prismfire) who has presented at Hypnoticon East specificly on Hypnosis in the Lifestyle as well as a basics of hypnosis class. The main coverage on NLP and hypnosis was mostly a matter of "Pay attention to what you and others say during the scenes you do, because the bottom in a trance state can easily pick up things as suggestions."  I also covered the idea of placing anchors something we do in many cases anyway. A word, a look etc that sends the bottom back into "subspace" trance, Arousal and orgasim triggers etc. Nothing about how to other than just paying attention to what you say to your bottoms, and a suggestion that if they wanted to look into more NLP that they could find it usefull.
Less specificly NLP more on the idea of suggestion, I open the door a crack and dicuss the idea that while in a subspace trance, suggestion for post scene adjustment of training ideas you might already be working reinforcing concious work, might speed the process and drive both identity and thought proceses more deeply is quite possible. Example being that during the reconnection/ aftercare phase talk to them about self image items, beautiful creature, the infamous Good Girl/ Boy, communication items you're going to remember to be more open about _____ and talk to me with less embarasment about______.

I'm not a certified hypnotist, I'm studying up on it because I have been looking at the idea of a person being suceptable to suggestion, while in trance states. Between Jack Rinella's touching on it, and articles from Leatherfolk  and a few books on ritual use of pain for intitiations etc. The parralells seam far too many to leave the subject untouched.
Again this has been one of those classes where I have studied and built a class because nobody else was teaching it.

I see increadable potential for it's use and missuse, and want people to think about what they may have been doing subconciously already, and to conciously consider what they are feeding to their bottom's brains.

When talking about clearer perspectives I'm talking about using SM to clear away what I call "concious life brain clutter" Not much different than the use of meditation to do the same thing.

I actually boiled down my catalytic vs cathartic definitions from an old E-zine article by Midori.
Cathartic being a scene that causes a sudden release of emotion (not limited to crying releases of sadness or shame but also including anger releases).
Catalytic being scenes that trigger a perspective or life lesson, even scenes that are relativel dull or that go wrong can create change.

A scene can be either one the other, both or niether. There are some things you can do that will stack the deck in favor of achieving catharsis and change, but you cant force them.

yes true, funny story:  i was in rope, standing tip toe, deeply in space, when someone was just in earshot, said out loud "when did the pony turn into a penguin?", harmless enough but it went into my brain in a very funny way, and Lee delightedly riffed on that, and suddenly the sceen shifted to me earning the title of his ponypenquincatdogpig that night...twas fun.

yes i like that idea, not unlike a safty first aid kit, i think it is integral to be aware of what is going in, i have know 2 people that are forever... erm... damaged? from intense interogation scenes ....makes me go hmmm.

i think it is a good idea in any scene to ask the question what is the over arching goal here?  of course ymmv

This weekend was the first time for this class nobody eles has booked it yet for events but I hope that is changing soon as we will be shifting it up the list of classes we offer from in development to ready to present.

Maui wish I could afford the travel that far. Closest I've gotten thus far is Phoenix were I expect I'll be presenting that class in January. But I'll be in SF in October, for an event/ contest (not presenting just helping with production).

Meanwhile the review and adjustment of the class will be going on so that it gets better.

Generally we have tried not to actually ask for anything beyond a place to sleep and a meal or two, we have always been happy to accept when the group/ event can afford to give us more than that.

Maam,

Thank you for the reference. I saw this on another post and saved it for Sir. We both thought it was an incredible demostration - nice to see YouTube being used in such a way.

Thanks for thinking of us, we appreciate it!

PL for SirMike and herself.

"anything in the vein of classes you teach: what are some of your classes...or if there are a bunch, personal favorites/fan favorites etc.

That's not bad.  I can envision, over time, with some added skill sets, a 102, 103 and advanced courses.

(But I have to admit, I've never been a big fan of vegetables or fruits on my weiner....so I think I'd not show up on the day they did stuff with those plombs).

Cutting with knives and razors would be a good one. Safety of course proper ways to cut how deep where no scars would be left etc.

that is nice... I would like to see a class focused on how to add some asthetic value to my rope work... usually the classes all focus on functional techniques ie: how to thwart an escape artist , how to make it comfortable for longer sessions, ties that work very well for sexual intercourse etc
