My sister and I have five dogs, all of them housetrained to the point of waking people up at night to go out. Now, first let me explain, my sister is not in the lifestyle, and she is engaged to a truck driver, who is also not involved in the lifestyle.... For the longest time we would have to bribe the dogs to come in so we could close the door, and go to sleep at a decent hour. However, going through 10 bags of doggie treats a week is expensive. One evening, tired of the bribery, I tried every threat I could think of, and just got the "Did you say something?" look. So I decided to call sis and get her to maybe suggest something. I said, "Im gonna call momma." in a normal tone, and the next thing I knew, the five dogs were running full blast to the door. Since then all I have to do is hold up a cordless phone, let them see it, and the come in heads down and tails between their legs. The real kicker is that, as I said, my sister Tami is not in the lifestyle, but the dogs consider her the alpha female in the house, including a 70 pound pit/lab mix that will stand defiantly looking at someone but when it comes to Tami, he rolls on his back with a whimper. And none of these dogs have ever been smacked more than once in thier lives with a rolled up paper. Now how many CM members out there have pets with equally strange behavior?

I have 4 dogs ...one of which is a special needs greyhound that I adopted out of Florida who had extreme fears which is a genetic condition dogs like her are referred to as spooks ..some as capable of racing --some actually have made it into the Greyhound Hall of Fame but others lean to the extreme ..to top it off she is also extremely submissive an omega dog ... in a multi dog setting like a track a dog that is both extremely fearful as well as omega will likely end up attacked and killed by the dogs ..she also bears several scars likely from her littermates that likely picked on her... normally a dog like her would be put down and deemed even unadoptable but one group in Florida does make an attempt to adopt them ,, they rank them by fearfulness and set guidelines at what would make the most suitable home and interview potential adopter extensively so as to make sure the adopter knows it is not just case of loving the dogs to help overcome their fears,,, you need to understand some dog pyschology behaviour, and you also have to already a very passive people loving dog in the family and no children and you have to be able to offer a very stable routine oriented home in order to adopt and you have to be able to accept that the dog may never come totally around, this girl was ranked as 1 meaning extreme...if she even as much as seen a person 50 yards away she would start to panic and would be trying to flee... voices on a radio and tv would terrify her ... I have had her for 4 1/2 years now it took me 2 just to be able to walk up to her without her bolting each time ..3 years to turn on a tv without scaring her to death about 2 1/2 where she was not terrified to go outside to the yard incase a neighbour was outside, there were times were she would be spooked by something inside the house for example one day I took the curtains of the windows to wash them which really unnerved her ...once outside she would refuse to come back inside and it would take 3 or more hours to catch her to get her inside again ... I eventually had to make a narrow run in the yard for her inorder not to have to be constantly trying to corner and trap her whenever she was spooked ...this year she has made the most gains she is now accepting the fenced yard offers safety from the neighbour instead on running around in circles tail tucked tightly under her belly panicking looking for a hiding place she is holding her ground and barking at them with tail wagging ...she is not yet brave enough to go up to the fence but still a huge ..huge improvement from at first when spotting a neighbour 5 houses down would spook the heck out of her and make her afraid to go out later. her newest behaviour has become nighttime hugs every night she jumps onto my bed after I get into my bed stands over me like a giraffe and tucks her neck and places her forehead on my chest and just wiggle her head and I give her a hug in return in the mornings my waking up is greeted with great enthusiam she is usually bouncing on the bed playbowing and barking at me.
