xlanadreamsx -> random question (11/2/2005 1:01:51 AM)

What's the grossest food-related item you couldn't live without?

I really like the grease from frozen burgers. If you microwave them on a plate, they're in a puddle of grease and it's yummy.

NakedOnMyChain -> RE: random question (11/2/2005 4:32:35 PM)

Probably hot dogs.

FangsNfeet -> RE: random question (11/2/2005 8:00:02 PM)

Gristle and Deep Fried Pork Chops served under TX Truck Stop Chilli.

Brussel sprouts, which technically are only gross to about 95% of the population ;-)

frenchpet -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 12:21:04 AM)

Here's the list :

It's not gross at all, but I'm pretty sure some people out there think it is : Roquefort; the green spots on it are fungi ! How can I eat that ???? Well, because it's delicious. Believe me, we wouldn't make the same cheese during two millenia if it were bad.

Oysters are kinda gross, and some misleaded people think foie gras is gross. It's just plain delicious. Both oysters and foie gras are holy in the french religion, which worships good food. The funny thing about oysters is that they started as a survival meal for very poor Bretons peasants and are now an expensive delicacy.
Snails are also gross if you think too much, otherwise they're just really good.

Nope, I haven't eaten any frog's leg. I guess I could find them in many supermarkets (imported from central or eastern Europe), but it used to be really popular when it was possible to "fish" them in the pond next door. Now there aren't many ponds left, plus frogs are protected and it's illegal to "fish" them.

Quivver -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 5:48:54 AM)

I'm not sure which would be my first pic, Onions or Garlic.
Although I totally agree with French Pet about the Roquefort,
and LadyAngelika's Brussel Sprouts too.
Now where's the Venison?

Do you mean there are some people who think that venison is gross ?????? That's insane ! Why would anyone consider venison as gross ???
And to those who think foie gras is gross, I advise them to visit a farm where they produce their favourite chickens or beef. There is no comparison between these horror houses and a farm where farmers make their foie gras (I'm not talking about the shitty foie gras that one can find in the supermarkets, yuck).

Quivver -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 6:10:17 AM)

Yes Pet, there are those that feel Venison is horrible. Course most havent tried it, and wouldnt have the slightest idea of how to cook it. Then again for many it's Disney, they just cant get past the idea of eating Bambie.

Oh...
A good thing there are some people around my house who can get past the idea of shooting bambie's father and friends, because otherwise there would be no way to drive more than 1 kilometer without bumping in one. Even with over 100 of them shot each year just in my village (I'm not sure of the exact figure, but it's something like 600 for the little group of villages around here), there are loads of accidents (with boars too). Not to mention all the crops they destroy, and the trees in private gardens. OTOH I consider a big mac to be gross, as it's from the meatrix (link in my previous message...). I hope those who blame people for shooting Bambie don't eat any meat from industrial farms. Personally I don't eat meat that's not from a family farm. Debeaking and other industrialized tortures and mutilations ? THAT is gross.

LadyAngelika -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 10:22:19 AM)

Roquefort is absolutely delightful. So is foie gras! Just throw in a baguette and a nice wine from Sauternes in there and I'll be in heaven!

Oysters i love, especially on the half shell. I'll never pass up good belgian style mussels, Moules et frites!

I've had snails and frog legs and it's not that I don't like them, it's that I don't understand what all the fuss is about them. I can take them or leave them.

Now if someone wants to do a gag test, they can try a specific gunkan-maki (battleship wrap style) called a sunset. It is basically a ball of rice with seawead wrapped around the sides form a container for
- on one side, ikura, red salmon roe
- on the other uni, a raw sea urchin
- in the middle, a raw quail egg, bright mustard yellow and shiny, hence why they call it a sunset!

Goes down all squiggly ;-)

Hmmm, your recipe sounds wonderful :).

Wouldn't you need some simple onion jam to go with the foie gras ? :)

I think the fuss about snails concerns the production, because they have to be starved for some time etc, I'm not sure. Concerning the frogs, I have no idea, I have not even been curious to buy any when I was in a restaurant that offered them (it became very rare, at least I noticed frogs on the menu only once), as there was something else I really like (duck breast if I remember well), and people told me frog legs just taste like chicken.

mnottertail -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 6:38:20 PM)

Side pork.

siamsa24 -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 7:00:47 PM)

I don't think this is gross, but other people do.......

I buy those great big tubes of ground beef and cook them, then I chill them in tupperware and eat them cold right out of the container (just plain, cold ground beef).

I also eat raw oatmeal...........but that's another story

windchymes -> RE: random question (11/3/2005 7:29:25 PM)

I'm into brussels sprouts too!

Also, braunschweiger (gooseliver pate).

And my favorite sandwich, peanut butter, Miracle Whip and dill pickles.

And I like ketchup on my scrambled eggs and on sauerkraut.

Don't knock it![:D]

I don't eat anything "gross," but friends would probably tell you I can't live without tartar sauce & french fries. For Master, it would be raw meat. Yuck!

submissivesilk -> RE: random question (11/4/2005 10:18:22 AM)

i like frog legs, don't think thats very gross, but i'm from south Louisiana, we eat alot of strange stuff down there.

i like grape jelly with my over easy eggs, aka green eggs.

Littlepita -> RE: random question (11/5/2005 1:58:47 PM)

Cold meatloaf sandwhich with mayo and ketchup, for breakfast is on of my favorite foods list that everyone I know thinks is very gross.
