colouredin -> No opinion needed (6/16/2008 12:56:53 PM)

Now this post was sparked by a few things here mostly a person specifying who they wanted to respond to the topic and it causing problems. So heres my question surely there are issues that only really relate to certain people the people who have actual experiance of it, why then often are we compelled to give an opinion ourselves when we learn by doing? I know opinions are valid and no ones is better really just that if someone asks specific advice how can you advise when you have no experaince.

I learn by osmosis.
Therefore, I am allowed to have opinions on everything.
(and I do!)

Lol good for you :P so whats it like to be bald? :P

It sucks!
And we can't see for ourselves how ridiculous our two foot long comb-over looks until years later when we see an old picture of ourselves.
*doh*

I have no experience in most things, I advise anyway.

Just dont sue me if the world falls down.

I have too many opinions, my head might explode all gooey.

Using the above as keywords in a Google search, I received this as the first choice. So, it is possible to use Google to enhance one's smartness.

A friend of mine ran by me a scenario where the guy she was dating has been making comments more and more often about marriage (they have a child together already and have been on again/off again for years but are more on again).

Anyway, it struck me that it sounded to me like he was "trying on his thoughts" much like you can't really tell how an article of clothing will look until you try it on, sometimes you can't know how your thoughts will sound or feel to you until you type them or say them outloud.

Many times I have an inkling of what I my opinion is on a given topic, but when I let my fingers do my speaking more comes out then I had originally thought, so in a way, I'm trying on my opinion, seeing if it makes as much sense in the light of day as it did in the dark recesses of my mind.  Other times I want people to debate with me as I may not have thought of every angle or I want an arguement to sway my original possiton.

It really isn't necessary to make every mistake myself, I am capable of learning from others, and remembering what happened to them.

There are many times a thread is started where someone will pipe up and say.. "I would like to see those answers, too!" An OP is simply a public thread starter. It would be fairly arrogant to believe they were the only one who might have that particular question. Others may appreciate a more diverse viewpoint.

I have often started threads seeking the opinion of a particular orientation. That said, I have never shut out the possibilities that there are others who may like a broader viewpoint, so I invite those views even if I don't read them myself. If there are opinions that a particular OP doesn't care to view, they are free to skip those posts. Problem solved. To beat an OP up about it doesn't seem productive either though. They are entitled to their wants .. they just not entitled to get them. ::chuckles::

One last thing. Sometimes having no experience brings up the most interesting questions that will cause an OP to pause and go .. hmm.. that question makes me reconsider X stance.

Of course, this is all just my opinion! [8D]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: No opinion needed (6/16/2008 3:09:40 PM)

If I want to ask an opinion of a particular subset of people, I trot over to my personal mailing list and ask my friends who fit that description.  Otherwise, why limit the responses?  That's part of the entertainment of an open forum, IMO.  If someone doesn't want to hear me, they don't have to read my posts.

sunshinemiss -> RE: No opinion needed (6/16/2008 3:25:51 PM)

just because someone doesn't know about a SPECIFIC subject doesn't mean that person doesn't know about something similar... or has heard a relevant story... or studie it in school... No, I've never experienced a heart attack, i've never been in the presence of someone having a heart attack, but i know CPR...

Some information can be crossed over - fear of heights is similar to fear of water because they are both about fears - based in real, but have become irrational.

And then there are the people that just want to hear themselves talk.....

blah blah blah....
