Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. “If he [Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place,” said a US intelligence source.

First of all, it seems a thread with similiar content is/has been moved to a forum section that is no way related to politics.

First, may I point out that taking down an extremist group leader has never put a stop to the actions of the group.  Yeah, we may get some sense of justice at getting Bin Laden, but in the end nothing changes.  Somebody will take his place and the terror will continue.

Now, to make a point of where or what has caused the fanaticism of the various Muslim groups, I suggest you look at a map of the Ottoman Empire prior to WW1 and then one after WW1, this is a very important point to consider.

Under the Ottoman Empire, most of the Muslim world was united under one government.

After WW1, the empire was broke up.

What is now Israel, Egypt, and Iraq became English Protectorates, the French got what is now known as lebanon.

Now, when you take out the central government for a region, and then try to recreate borders that are over 1000 years out of date, you are going to have some major issues.

And that is exactly what happened.  The borders were redrawn in accordance to what the British and French thought were best.  It did not matter that within these borders, groups with historic and long term animosity towards each other were placed together, in unequal proportions.

The problems began then, and have continued.

Because it is an election year and the current administration will be out of office in a matter of months.
