camille65 -> Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:44:11 PM)

I need to make dinner tonight and my cupboards are pretty bare.

5 oz leftover Delmonico steak
4 tomatoes
1 orange
2 apricots
oatmeal
bagels
box of mac n cheese
assorted cheeses
panko crumbs
fresh green & wax beans
1 sweet onion
vanilla soy milk

Soooooo what sort of yummy dinner for one can be created from that?
I'm very very cold and tired so it is hard for me to think.
Please help feed camille!

i swear i remember reading on here that you could put what you have on hand in google and it would give you a great recipe.  maybe someone else remembers it....

spinninsweetness -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:48:10 PM)

No marmite in the house? Wow thats desperate... I personally would go for... a cheese bagel. But that is because I am very very lazy.

LadyRainfire -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:52:11 PM)

[:(]  No, no marmite in the house, nor vegemite either, spinnin... Camille is in the states where they don't eat that stuff. Me, I love it, but then I went to school in Australia..... And no, I ain't going to call anyone Skippy tonight. Didn't this morning either.... [:D]

Camille, can you make an apricot-orange glaze for the steak with steamed beans?

purepleasure -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:53:01 PM)

Sautee the onion in some margarine or some type of oil, dice the tomatoes and add to the frypan.  simmer gently.  make the  green/wax beans for a side dish.  After the tomatoes and onions have simmered awhile, add the leftover steak, and cook until heated. Make just the macaroni from the mac & cheese until al dente or tender to your preference.  Drain macaroni and put in a serving bowl.  Pour onion, tomato and steak mixture over top and mix lightly.  Athough, if you make the mac and cheese and pour the steak mixture over top, that will probably taste pretty good too.  Fruit and cheese for dessert.

edited to say.. it has a log in and i have no idea if its free or not.... yet

LadyRainfire -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:54:12 PM)

Or dice some tomatoes and onions to go in the beans as well.... If you don't like the idea of an apricot-orange glaze for the steak, then bread the steak and toss a little cheese into the crumbs for flavour.

beargonewild -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:54:19 PM)

Hmmmm.......

cut the leftover steak into strips, dice onion and saute with some spice. add meat and cook until tender then throw in the beans and cook until they are partially crispy. Cook mac & cheese then put into casserole dish,  dice tomato and mix in. Mix up the cheese sauce and pour over mac, cover with grated cheese and crumbs then bake until edges are browned.
Eat apricots for dessert

camille65 -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 2:56:17 PM)

Ooooooooh pp.
We have a winner! Easy and yummy.
Its rare for me, not being able to put a meal together but I'm exhausted to the point of stupidity. On top of my usual steamed turnip mentality it makes throwing together a meal just too too hard.

Thank you. I've not eaten all day and I need a real meal.

ETA as I typed the rest of you posted lol. The glaze sounds really really good but too labor intensive. I am seriously overly tired, at the point where using a sharp knife is a dicey prospect. Get it? Dicey? HAH.
The cassorole from bear sounds great but again, I haven't energy for it. Ugh I detest being like this. I feel stupid and slow.

babygirlangel -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 3:07:17 PM)

all of YOU don't seem to need it! great ideas! i'mmmmm not so much of a cook[sm=oops.gif]... and i went through the registration and evidently it IS free...

Poor camille. The poor dear is cold, hungry and can't cum. [image]http://www.collarchat.com/upfiles/smiley/flowers.gif[/image]

LadyRainfire -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 3:12:14 PM)

babygirlangel, I've been cooking my entire life, since I was 3 (ask my father!) usually for a number of people on a very limited budget. I'm used to being able to throw something together with whatever is on hand. Though admittedly, pure and bear's ideas sound better to me, my ideas are usually pretty simple and basic. I always seem to have picky eaters.....

Which means that I am HUNGRY in more ways than one!!

Onions are cooking as I type.

Normally I could just toss stuff together and get a meal but my brain won't process stuff atm. So I humbly thank all of you for helping.

babygirlangel -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 3:21:41 PM)

simple and basic is good for me. if it has too many steps i'll flub it up to be sure.. lol

PanthersMom -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/17/2008 3:40:25 PM)

you want picky?  try feeding four little monsters and one very finnicky big one.  kinda ironic that he's chosen a cat moniker, he's just as picky as one!  some days i just can't please anybody, lol!

It's a sort of rule in our home... if you don't want to eat what's cooked, there's peanut butter and jelly.  We don't use very much peanut butter and jelly.

LadyRainfire -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/18/2008 7:45:47 AM)

Wow, you're nice, pure..... If you don't like what I cook, then you don't eat.

(I gave options for a while - they took advantage of them. "I don't want that jelly, I want THAT jelly.... No, I don't want that bread, I want THAT bread!" I cooked to order for a bit. And that was taken advantage of. So I finally said screw it, if I'm cooking, I'm the cook, I'M COOKING, DAMMIT,  and if you don't like it, tough.... I will now take into consideration what will and will not be eaten and now that I live with Lumus, I will cook his favourites and what HE likes, but that's a different story.) [;)]

camille65 -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/18/2008 8:17:59 AM)

I consider myself as lucky, my parents were not at all 'force feeders' when I was growing up.
The only rule was to try one bite, if I hated it then I could make myself a sandwich or something. Or eat whatever else was at the table and skipping the icky food.

There was no such thing as finishing what was on the plate so I never got into the habit of overeating, early on I stopped food intake when my stomach felt full.

Very very little was icky to me and I became an adventurous eater. Pickled pig knuckles, escargot and head cheese were all things I happily ate by the age of 10 and as an adult I will try anything (except for frog legs and things made from turtles, but that is an emotional choice not a flavor choice). I love being open to new flavors and textures.

Breakfast food didn't matter either, so long as I ate something before school. I would usually eat soup for breakfast in the winter and a sandwich in the summer. By the end of the day I had eaten a balanced group of food, just not in the usual order. Even today I eat what most consider non-breakfast food for my first meal.

Nearly everyone I know grew up having to finish their plate and I've noticed that most overeat and are reluctant to experiment with food. When friends eat over there is still the rule I grew up with. Try just one bite, if that repulses you then okies, but just try.

LadyRainfire -> RE: Make-A-Meal (6/18/2008 8:59:59 AM)

You're right, you are lucky!! My family was force-feeders, you had to clear your plate no matter how much had been put on it. I used to get in so much trouble for not eating everything on my plate. Then, my mother would would make some of the most horrible things, hamburgers that were the toughest, chewiest, most burnt things you could imagine. I couldn't gag them down. To this day, I can't do homemade hamburgers, I get sick to my stomach. Or canned peas. She would boil them to mush. I had no idea that peas could be sweet, crunchy and delicious until many years later out on my own.  I still won't do cooked carrots, that's a hard limit for me. All in all, I still have some pretty traumatic memories from childhood and eating.

On the other hand, I am a very adventurous eater. I eat from most cuisines around the world. Asian, Middle Eastern, European, North American, you name it. I may not always know what I'm eating but I usually like it. I don't eat calamari/squid though, not after a very bad case of food poisoning put me in the hospital. Oh, and I don't eat octopus. *grins* Or turtles.
