What I mean is would someone who only testifies on something he believes in be seen as well versed in a particular area, or the opposite?

An expert witness testifies to their conclusions... if they get caught blatantly lying about how they reached those conclusions they may have a problem.

Otherwise, they are free to testify as to what they believe, and to how that belief supports their employer's case.

That can leave it wide open for the 'duelling experts' scenario, where each one honestly professes to believe a competing theory.

Back in 1997, My father made over 350k over the course of 5 1/2 months working with deep-pocket plaintiff attorneys on a case that involved a hostile merger where the founder of the company had been cheated /ousted….

A guy that plays golf with pops four times week, has made over a million bucks on one case as a forensic accountant re-constructing the money trail after funds disappeared and deep-pocked corporate accounting firms have been complicit in the disappearance. {Through a pyramid scheme}.

Of course, no matter how intelligent/ how much of a specialist you are, you also have to learn how to give expert testimony in a way that establishes hi-degree of credibility before the judge/jury. Remember....in cases where expert testimony is used, the other side has experts, also.

As long as He is consistent, (meaning He doesn't say one thing for one trial, and something totally different for another-barring new medical findings), He can say both what He believes in (and teaches) and from the POV of established research. (some of which He has been involved in)
