And people wonder why I am planning to get dental implants.

At present I am being forced to have all teeth pulled, not for bad dental hygene either. I had two teeth abcess and the infection did something to the upper and lower jaws. There is some fancy name for it, but dont ask me to spell it.

The result was that my teeth began to basically fall apart. So, when all is said and done I am going to have implants done.

I can understand what you are going thru, but I have had temp fillings before and NEVER had any pain. Sounds a bit off to me, but then I dont trust dentists as far as I could throw one. Anyone that will knowingly lie to you with the phrase, "This wont hurt a bit" is untrustworthy.

Which brings up another point, why do they give doctors and dentists licenses to PRACTICE... shouldnt they have had all the practice they needed in school?

i don't really understand it but like i said i'm gonna watch it and try to get in somewhere if it gets worse. right now it's getting better just really really slowly. my teeth are weird like that though. they hurt even when i don't have cavities.

I would say get a new dentist. Thats absolute bullshit. I have had root canal done, and been out having steak dinner that very night. I recently had a ton of dental work done - including root planing in all quadrants, bone graft and the surgical removal of four bone chips left over for years from a disasterous molar extraction (Fucking Navy doctors!), three implants, a crown, four root canals (two of which were to kill nerves affected by the bone chips), replacing all almalgam fillings, cosmetic bonding etc... I mean I had whole dental makeover done, according to my insurance $24,412 worth, and I only took eight out of 120 prescribed pain pills and some of those werent even for dental pain! A lot of it is the skill of the practicioner, and the state of the art has come a long way. My dentist is only 32 years old, and she can do amazing things without pain.

Will good old Doctor Butch thinks you have an infection... there is swelling that is causing the pain... Have them prescribe some antibiotics...

Seriously my daughter had exactly the same problem... the combination of vicodin and antibiotics did the trick.

I've had more than my fair share of dental work. Implants are next. I think every molar has a root canal in it.

Forget the Excedrin if you can't do aspirin (which is probably because aspirin thins the blood and may cause bleeding). Regular formula Excedrin has aspirin in it.

The best pain reliever I've found for dental pain is ibuprofren. Take 2 at the first sign of pain and 2 every four hours thereafter. It probably sounds like overdosing, but I believe 4 200 mg. ibuprofren are actually one dose of prescription-strength. I actually usually take 4 at a time, for a good 10-12 hour period it kills any tooth pain.

It also sounds like you need antibiotics - it's probably infected. Treating this would then allow the nerve to calm down.

If you're waiting until August for something that hurts, you're going to get used to taking meds or you're going to be miserable by that time! I sympathize, and hope this passes for you quickly. Tooth pain is terrible to deal with.

make sure you follow the directions on the Tylenol bottle too much can cause you problems!

4000 mg of acetaminophen a day is toxic to the liver.

IMO the OP should take a non-opioid pain pill. The beauty about root canals is that once done- there is no pain, since there is no root. It is money well spent.

lucky you on finding a program. we have nothing like that in my area.

you could try the ambesal- I have used that myself.

Are you eating bananas or some kind of sweets? If so stop doing that and the pain may go away in about one week.

mid has to go to one of teh dental clinics in a hospital around here and i wasn't going to tag along but i think i'm going to. i can handle the pain at this point but i'm more concerned with the swelling and whatnot. i played this game a couple of years ago (mainly because my mom didn't think at 21 i could tell her if i really needed to see a dentist when i was home on break). i start teaching next month and i don't think i can do it feeling like this lol.

May I further suggest:

using pliers with a confortable grip. The fingers will ease more to the motion, and friction is reduced. Also the proper sized pliers are essential to effective poking and prodding. Be sure the priers are are room tempurature too.

the dental program here is the only reason that i still pay out for campus insurance. i pay well under half price for my work, and everythign that happens to my mouth is checked by a professional (which is why i'm not screaming at my dentist i just have that bad of a mouth). it took me six months to get in but now that i'm in i'm being seen fairly regularly. if school's in session anyway.

i'm tempted, i really am lol. it took almost a full year to have my last root canal done from actual root canal to getting the crown on, and in good part because my jaw opening is so insanely small (peds blocks anyone?). i'm tempted to just have them yank the sucker.

I had a tooth pulled. I regret it. I had planned to get a bridge then finances got tough. That tooth would have stayed put for another 5 years....

they told me when i was 15 that due in large part to genetics i'm probably going to loose all of my teeth anyway. i'm at teh point now where they're telling me that my symptoms are like i never take care of my teeth, but that my teeth look amazing in terms of hygiene. i'm just not sure that i can handle this run around again.

Try one of the creams used for teething babies. Do not (as per my dentist) use the adult type because with long term use they will burn the gums.

An old remedy: Empty the tea from a tea bag. Fill the tea bag with marjirom (a spice..sold in most grocery stores). Dunk it in hot water for a moment then apply to the tooth.

Good luck to you...i know how bad it can hurt.
