Dateline Charlotte, North Carolina, 3 am Eastern time.
The day started with the ex threatening to have me arrested (what a blowhard). Flight out of Fresno took off on time, was a bit bumpy going over the mountains, and landing in Las Vegas.
Flight out of Vegas to Charlotte took off on time, but we took a southerly route over Arizona, Texas, etc., to avoid weather. We landed in Charlotte a few minutes late.
The flight from Charlotte to Florida was delayed an hour. Takeoff time (11 pm) came and went, and still no airplane. Finally the gate agent started yelling at people that he was tired of answering questions and just then the flight disappeared from the screens. It had been cancelled for weather. Hundreds of people were going to be staying in Charlotte overnight due to weather.
Since it was weather-related, the airlines were not going to pay for anything. They gave us a special phone number to get a hotel room at a negotiated rate of $59/night. I got a reservation for the Ramada and went outside to catch the shuttle.
Shuttle after shuttle came and people mobbed it. I was getting fed up, and saw a shuttle from the Four Points Sheraton with only one person on it, and I said to the driver, "can I bribe you to take me to the Ramada?" and he said SURE. A few other peeps heard this and got in on the deal.
We pull up to the Ramada, and the line to check in, at about 1:00 a.m., snaked across the lobby and out the door. Holy shit. Everybody but me got out, and I asked the driver if the Four Points had any rooms, and would they honor the $59 rate? He called the hotel and they said YES. So he took me to the Four Points, and here I am, in a two-room suite with 2 queen size beds, a separate kitchenette/dining area, a large living room with a flat panel tv, and another of the same in the bedroom, free wireless internet. All for $59.
I was talking to the one girl on the shuttle that had a reservation at the Four Points (at over $100/night). She got in on the $59 deal as well because her flight to Philly had been cancelled. After we checked in, we went down the street to a diner and had a very late dinner together. Very funny lady. I gave her the name of this site, so Angel, if you're reading, I had a blast with you!
My flight tomorrow leaves around 1:15 pm and I should be in Ft Myers at 3:15 pm.
