Most of the time I Don't lol.  It's a juggling act that I haven't Quite perfected yet, and usually it's only taking care of  myself that gets neglected in favor of other things.
quote:

Do you make lists and organize your priorities? [sm=juggle.gif]
Ummmmm... list? we don't need no stinkin Lists!  Oh,er... the Truth... oook.  The truth is that about the only 3 places I tend to actually Suceed at following lists are when I'm at the airport to go fly, when I'm checking the camping gear to head to the lake for a few days, or when I'm busy in my workshop.  Personal life? phhhhhht.  Hardly.

quote:

Do some responsibilities carry more weight than others? [sm=ballchain.gif]

Yes.  Some carry so much more weight that the rest of the world will get told to kiss my rosey red asscheeks until they're taken care of when they crop up.

quote:

How and when and where do you find time for your partner(s)? [sm=sex.gif]

That's what vacation time is for.  Since I don't currently have a "partner" in the sense that I Think you're meaning, it's not a big factor in my life.  When I want to see various friends, I call them and make arrangements to do so.

quote:

How do you achieve some quality alone time? [sm=skiprope.gif]

I tell the rest of the world (ie any friends, etc) to bugger off - unplug the house phone, turn off the ringer on the cell phone, lock the front door, avoid my workshop, and go in my studio to paint.  Anyone who disturbs me while I'm in there knows they're taking their life into their own hands - and if someone ain't already bleedin when they come in, someone will be by the time they go back out.

There are several ways:
  1. 3 parts gin 1 part vermouth
  2. 7 parts tequila 4 parts Triple Sec 3 parts lime juice
  3. 1 part white rum 1 part coconut cream 3 parts pineapple juice.
quote:

Do you make lists and organize your priorities?

I should.  I don't.

quote:

Do some responsibilities carry more weight than others?

Only the annoying ones.

quote:

How and when and where do you find time for your partner(s)?

How?  By being stubborn and stepping away from work for a while.
When?  Daily
Where?  Wherever I happen to be (usually at home).

quote:

How do you achieve some quality alone time?

A genteel "fuck off" will always work, although if I want some quality people time afterwards I will generally do the Greta Garbo ("I vant to be alone").

Lockit -> RE: Achieving balance in life? (6/19/2008 5:02:24 PM)

It depends on the situation.  I learned that taking time for myself and partner was major in actually working things out throughout life.  These are suggestions that worked for me.  If you don't recharge... you end up burning out or losing parts you shouldn't have to.  Taking the time actually makes more time because you are recharged.  If you take care of number one and two... if there is a two, you do well because everything flows from there.

So do something for you every day even if for ten minutes and once a week try to do something more... long bath... walk in the park... anything that relaxes you.

Learn the word no.  People will take far more than you can afford to give sometimes.

List help if you are forgetful but can make you feel like you blew it when you can't get to everything on the list.  If you have list, have a carry over policy.  What could not be done, can be done tomorrow.  Don't let guilt feed on your energy.

Take one day for nothing but caring for your health, relaxing and doing little if you can.  If not... as much time as you can.

Regular hours for sleep and eating help too.

Learn to delegate... even um's can be given a daily chore that won't hurt them and make it easier for you to do it all.

Unplug... that means phones, door bells... anything just to shut it all off... it will be there when you return.  If you can't unplug the phone for emergency type things have a specail ring or code of rings that you will answer and none other during your unplug time.

Ten minute naps actually were found to help people recharge.  It wasn't enough to mess up sleep patterns, but it actually gave more rest or restoration than an hour nap.  Even if you don't sleep... close your eyes and rest.

Keep laughing!

Good sex!  Find the time for it...  even if just a quicky... it pays off in many ways!

By knowing when to slack off and just take us time, no matter if thats a vacation, a day in bed or just being a bum for the weekend.

Do you make lists and organize your priorities?

Mentally yes, I know what can be left to sit for a few days and what needs doing now.

quote:

Do some responsibilities carry more weight than others?

Definitely, Relationship, living, relaxing, the rest ... in that order.

quote:

How and when and where do you find time for your partner(s)?

All day and every day, it might not be ideal but emails, text messages, notes and then a couple of hours every night.

quote:

How do you achieve some quality alone time?

Creep out of bed early and get a couple of hours in fishing, that first couple of hours as it gets light are the best "me" time I could ever wish for .... and normally I can be back at home before she is awake.

I try to not to allow things I have no control over to get me stressed.  It's not a perfect system, but it helps a lot.

Lists are for trips to the store.

Priorities fluctuate, but to do the things that must be done, you do what you have to do.

Sharing the same bed every night works pretty well.

I tend to get up early on the weekends.

balance is achieved by placing one beer in each hand.

I never make lists because that would be one more thing to forget.

Of course some responsibilities carry more weight than others.  I am, after all a guild leader on WOW.

My partner and I find time whenever, wherever and however we can and thenwe bicker about it afterwards.

Quality time alone?  I close my door, dim the lights, put on some soft music, pour me a glass of wine, then reach for the baby oil.

I live day to day, and I don't worry about things I can't control.

No, I have never made lists.  I notice most men don't.  It's more of a woman thing honestly.  I have a good memory, and I don't really have that complicated of a life.  I have always made a point to live simply and frugaly.  I have never been in debt, and I have never met any obstacle that I couldn't deal with.

quote:

Do some responsibilities carry more weight than others?

My family and friends will always be the highest priority to me.  Everything else is replaceable.

I don't have one at the moment.  But when I do, it's never been a problem.  When you find the right partner, going to the grocery store together can be an adventure in itself.

I'm introverted and a loner, so I get plenty of alone time.  A lot of people think I am snobby, because I don't have this need to be with people all the time.  I go out alone all the time to movies, museums, plays, for a drink.  I didn't realize other people found that odd until a few years ago.

While I'm not Introverted, the term "loner" definately applies.  I've got a few friends who are of the Social Butterfly sort who are Constantly telling me I'm strange because I see no need to always be part of a crowd.  I don't wait for someone else to come along if I want to go out to eat, or go prowl through a museum or art gallery, or go see a movie (I prefer those alone - don't have to share the popcorn, and don't have to worry about Distractions!).  When I want to be around People specifically, I go where there Are people or I call my friends and invite them over.

Doing a wide variety of activities over the week, like a few new things to keep it interesting, while doing some of the same things everyday at the same time generally. Everyday has the same structure of sleeping, eating, doing at least some personal errrands - somedays more, somedays less.  Always take it slow during early afternoon.
Maintaining the same healthy habits everyday: I always try to get at least 10 hours of sleep (well TRY). I always try to eat breakfast. Brush my teeth before I go to sleep.  Take a multivitamin.  Drink one glass of milk for calcium, and at least one bottle of water a day.  Put sunscreen if you're going to spend  a lot of time outdoors.  Nails once a week, hair every three months.

Yeah, I write it out on a big giant dry erase board, that's easy to hide when I want to and easy to pull out when I want to deal with finishing up stuff, like 6 lists divided up into categories.  I feel like once I put it on the board, it is out of sight and out of mind.  So I have a clear head and only think about that stuff until I'm in the mood and feel like ripping out the board to start doing errands.

quote:

Yeah, I divide the stuff on my board into need to do soon, and don't need to do until later unless you feel like it and want to get ahead.   I write deadline dates next to items with hard deadlines and try to get those done at least one week ahead.

I try to plan ahead.  Hopefully, they are more organized than me since i'm very lax on organization and we plan something at least a few days ahead.  I like doing new things, and am not a creature of habit.  So I get bored easily when it's the same old thing.  A place where both of us can  feel comfortable, relax, and enjoy doing something different.  Quality time depends on fulfilling at least one of our needs, preferably both over the long term.

I ask them if they we can do it some other time and explain my schedule not allowing for conveniently hanging out.  I say when I'm available if I don't have a lot of free time, or ask when they're available if I have a lot of free time.

Ven, that's funny, I think of "balance" when I'm at the gym and see these huge guys with muscles then look down at their little chicken legs!

Vendaval -> RE: Achieving balance in life? (6/20/2008 4:07:12 PM)

Oh yeah, all muscled up in the chest and arm area but not in the back or legs!  And they usually have no necks!

Not the most harmonious look, it's got to be said.
