ORIGINAL: Emperor1956 quote:
Did you know that hydrocodone (Vicodin) is metabolised to dilaudid in vivo? Cool, huh? I ran out of my Oxycontin yesterday and I was a bit, uh, edgy this morning until my pain doc appt. Now I'm feelin' groovy and getting all kinds of work done. uh...no, I didn't know that, Hippie. But thank you, I think. I actually don't like the feeling I get when I take narcotic-type painkillers. Even bourbon. It is how I know I'm a true control freak, wired to the bone (errrr...brain). I don't like that fuzzy feeling. Yes, even bourbon. Oh, and the "bedside manner of the day quote": Well...its about the size of a golf ball, maybe bigger. But, not like a softball, or anything gross, y'know. E Edited to add: On the other hand, this does allow Me to say, in twue Dom fashion "Yes, it really IS all about My Penis!" That was more for cjan, but yer welcome. Since I set out on my chronic pain journey, 9 years ago this coming August 5th, I have learned quite a bit about opioid analgesics (most pain docs use this term; narcotic is a loaded word and doesn't describe the primary action of such meds anyway), nociception, mu, sigma, and kappa opioid receptors, evidence-based pain management, the DEA's war on pain doctors (oh, I could go on about that, those miserable piece-of-shit DEA pigs)(and that cocksucker McCain jumped on the "war on people who use drugs" bandwagon years ago, leaving millions of Americans to suffer needlessly because those pricks think someone, somewhere, might get "addicted) (I'm physically dependent, but NOT addicted; big difference)(I could really go on a rant about this, but I'd get censored), the chemistry and pharmokinetics of opioids, and other pain-related topics. I barely feel 20 milligrams of oxycodone. Pain relief is adequate, constipation is manageable, and that's about it. In fact, if anything, there's an "up" just from lowering the pain level. In some people (and I think I'm in this group) opioids are very effective antidepressants. They are certainly much safer than alcohol (alcohol is an anaesthetic and industrial solvent - what a fine drug, huh? /sarcasm) and, all things considered, relatively inocuous when used properly. I'm an advocate of aggressive opioid therapy for pain management, and have no problems with decriminalizing them, with certain caveats. Damn, that's almost as long as a Termy post, isn't it?
