pinksugarsub -> The Anti-Post Phenom (6/20/2008 7:52:13 PM)

Why would A/anyone post to a thread just to say 'the Op was stupid/pointless/of no interest to me', etc.

Here's an example (and i dun mean to single out this member):

Nothing to add so here is a url I find entertaining.

This probably has more genuine meaning and depth to it than the OP.

Here's the thread it's on, in case A/anyone cares:

WTF is the point of posting an anti-post?

Who the hell has the time for this crap?

Isn't it the mission of the boards to exchange ideas/make jokes/argue politics/etc.  -- in short, a general mish-mash of convos?

How does the 'anti-post' fit this mission?

(Note: there's a zero-tolerance policy in place at my house for drama and bullsh*t, so if Y/you feel the urge to add Y/yr own 'anti-post', don't expect me to argue with Y/you.)

This is the subject of the OP:

WTF is up with the 'anti-post' phenom?

Is this s'thing new?

i was active on the boards a long time ago, and i don't remember seeing this.

GreedyTop -> RE: The Anti-Post Phenom (6/20/2008 7:55:25 PM)

because its a public forum, and people can post whatever they want to within the guidelines of TOS?  Because they are just as entitled to say "I disagree"/"I think this is horseshit"/"what an idiotic post" as anything else?

I've seen rude, obnoxious, and downright mean posts since I joined last October.  I just expect it now.

GreedyTop, You missed the Op completely.

The Op is not about the outside parameters of the Guidelines and TOS (though possibly that might be interesting to discuss.)

The Op is about a new phenom i've noticed since i've returned to the boards after having been gone quite awhile -- a phenom i named the 'anti-post'.

i explained what an 'anti-post' is and gave an example; that should have been sufficient to give You the clue about the topic of convo.

But hey, i'm nothing if not patient; if You want more info, tell what You want/need & i'll email You on the other side.

chamberqueen, there have been such posts oon the boards since i can recall.  Maybe there's been a rise in the number of them lately; that's possible.  i think there is an ebb and flow.

But the 'anti-post' confuses me.  i don't get what the member's purpose is in writing it; or what reason A/anyone would have to seek out Ops T/they dun like so T/they can write 'ant-posts'.

Maybe Yr right; maybe it's just a 'new and improved version' of the same element of anti-social behavior that's always been here...but i am hopng to explore the phenom for edification, if A/anyone has any thoughts on it.

perhaps because some people go through a wide variety of the forums.  They read posts, regardless of who has posted.  Somehow, in the case you cited above, I sincerely doubt that LondonArt specifically sought out your op, just to comment on it. Sometimes, on the scroller, I'll click something that catches my eye, without knowing who posted it. Other times, I'll be going through a thread, and feel like commenting.  Why? Because I feel like it, and as long as I don't violate TOS, I am allowed to post my opinion.

and once again:  anyone on these forums is perfectly within their rights to post WHATEVER they wish to say, as long as it is within the TOS guidelines.  This means, if they find a post to be stupid, inane, bullshit or whatever, they are entitled to say so as long as it doesnt violate TOS.
Why do they do it? BEcause thats their opinion and they are allowed to.
